Ray Emery: First goalie in NHL history to start 10-0-0
It was announced on NBCSN after tonight's game that Ray Emery is the first goalie in NHL history to start a season 10-0-0. Goaltending was the one question mark I had coming into this season for my team, but both have been dominating, and it's great to be able to kick back and relax even when Corey Crawford isn't starting.
Here's a hypothetical... has the Vezina ever been awarded to a backup?
Im not saying he deserves it... but lets suppose for a second that somehow, someway, he manages to go something like 20-0-0 this season... does he get a nom as the backup?

Probably. But, for now, he is slightly below Corey Crawford in that discussion. I'd give the Vezina to Crawford right now if it were to be decided right now on the spot.
I think we'll end up winning the Jennings Trophy with these 2.
Emery, like Stalberg is playing his way right off of the Hawks roster next season. He'll be a starter somewhere next year for sure. Edmonton, Florida, New Jersey, Islanders, Tampa, Washington etc... someone will give him some $$$
Love the way he's playing but i really think you have to give 51% of the credit to how the Hawks are playing in front of him. Emery deserves his record but no way he is 10-0 on a different team.
Yeah... when you have shootout wins to help you out, you can do things like this. Emery's 2nd and 6th games were shootout wins. Under the old system he's 8-0-2, with a ten-game undefeated streak, a three-game win streak, and a four-game win streak.
When he does twelve straight wins in regulation like Osgood did in 1996 (plus a 13th in OT after that) then call me.
I just don't get it. The guy is just plain bad on a technical level. He's awful post to post, he loses sight of the puck constantly, and as we saw tonight some really weak goals get by him but by some act of god he's still making stops and winning.

Certainly... IMO Crow has clearly been the better of the two, but to go undefeated in a season, even a short one, would be impressive. Im curious what effect that type of performance would have on the award.
For the record I don't think there's a shot in hell Emery could pull that off

Won't happen.
Chris Osgood was the clear starter and better goalie in a tandem with Mike Vernon in 1995-96. Osgood went 39-6-5, and led the league in wins and GAA. Jim Carey won the Vezina, with Osgood in second.

He has one of the worst reputations in the league. Nobody will sign him long term.
I think the playoffs will expose the Hawks experiment... Carrying two backup goaltenders.
