Being in a division with Detroit, Boston, the Leafs and Canadiens will force this team to be more discerning and think bigger when it comes to evaluating, drafting, and developing talent.
No longer will they just have to worry about what teams like Washington, Carolina and Winnipeg are doing...now they have to worry about the big players, and any slacking in the development department will be readily exposed.
The Bolts ownership and front office, I am sure, are well aware of this, and welcome the challenge as they construct their Stanley Cup contender.

And do you honestly believe that Yzerman hasn't amped up scouting and development by a ton already? I seriously doubt he's been spending the last three years saying "oh well, it's only the southeast, nobody will notice if I half ass it".
