I assume they kept Wolski in because of his goal. Otherwise Volpatti would be in.

I wish they WOULD have cancelled the season. But hindsight is 20-20. At least we have gotten to watch Mickey Ribs this year. And see the Ovie hat trick. And the Fehr overtime goal.

Apart from that, it's been pretty thin.

Don't get me wrong, on paper we win tonight's game easily. I'm just saying, with our current team, I don't put anything in the bank until game is over, the points are in the standings, and we are being told which Volpatti maxim won the game for us.

The thing which cracked me up about the Volpatti quote was, Hendy thought it was a 'great comment.' For my money, "winning the period" is as big a cliche as there is. That and "winning each shift." And moving your feet. And getting the puck deep.

Oh well. Whatever it took. It was a game to remember.

The comment I want to know more about is Shawn Thornton referring to Erskine as "Mr. Erskine." Anyone see that? I saw mention of it on B's board. Was it tongue-in-cheek, or is Thornton just an extremely polite pugilist?

Don't know who that actress is in yer avatar, but you've gotta love her classic face shape: beautiful lady!

Good post. I think we'll win, but probably in OT... giving them a point we cannot afford to.

Yes, but remember the series of game last year which we lost to AHL-heavy rosters on crappy teams? These Caps are capable of anything.

Good reason to do so. Maybe he'll get another, or 2, to stay in.

I would hope it's more the fact that he actually drives possession than the fact that he scored, but yes, given past decisions it wouldn't surprise me if that was the choice they were making.

Different team, and coach, but yes, you're right, we may see the same ol... and that's the shame.

Well they have their assistant coach who had to sign a 1 day contract to backup Clemmensen while they waited for Markstrom's equipment to arrive....

Rick Green = Karl Alzner (Green had a little more offense to his game)
Here is my try

Veitch = M Green (supposed to bring offense)
R Green = Poti
Labre = Alzner
Pat Ribble = Carlson
Hangsleben = Erskine
McTaggert = Oleksy (too soon )
Pierre Bouchard = Sarge (least PIMS)

1 day? How much do they pay for one day?

Wolski doesn't bother me as much as he bothers everyone else.

Another thing I noticed when I re-watched Bruins game next day was how reliably he got the puck deep either prior to line change or when there were no good options for gaining O-zone by pass. Okay, not the world's most important facet of the game. But still, highly appreciated and occasionally essential.

Yes, WW appears allergic to contact along the boards. But he has good hands and his celly indicated that the fire still burns. Plus the fact that he had to wear four pairs of socks when he skated as a kid because his parents could only afford a single pair of skates for him and his older brother to share. Let's not forget that important fact.

For my money, here are two dudes who need to score a freaking goal:

Chimera
Beagle

Perhaps, although we are 2-0 without him. We are a decimated AHL team. Take it easy on us.

Good luck, and for god sake, lets have an injury free game.

Alan Hangsleben. When he was acquired for Tom Rowe back in January, 1980 I remember first hearing about it on WTOP radio, Phil Wood at the time had a sports talk radio program on WTOP from about 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM (I believe it would follow Caps games). I remember Wood making the announcement at around 11:30 PM and then went on to voice his displeasure of the trade. The trade might of been made right after one of the Caps defeats that season.

Fully expect us to crap the bed after the emotional game on Tuesday. You'll win this 3-2; I'm hoping we at least get a point.

Flash with the OT winner.

My conclusion is one of polite pugilist.

i did not hear Thorton say it. However, during the Erskine's vs Thorton bout Erskine tapped him on the back. It seemed to be a "congratulatory" gesture and/or thanks for not pounding big-E when he hit the ice. Thorton stopped throwing punches when Erskine went down.

1+1+1 = polite pugilist?

There's no question Flash scores. Just a matter of how many.

Thornton has always came across as a decent guy. Loved when he embarassed that Vancouver journalist.

Some may argue that Florida's #1 goalie is finally playing.

"Shawn Thornton dropped long-time adversary John Erskine with a straight right in their bout two seconds after Chara gave the Bs a 2-0 lead. Thornton told Naoko between periods that “Mr. Erskine” asked him to go, so he did, because Erskine had given him the same ’courtesy’ in the past."

I believe most (all?) 1-day contracts are professional try-outs, and thus unpaid. Not positive about this, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Where has sk8bot been this season?
