Volchenkov for Liles

To Toronto:
Anton Volchenkov

To New Jersey:
John-Michael Liles or Clarke MacArthur

Devils would benefit from more mobility on the back end. Volchenkov has fallen from grace a bit in the fan base. Not sure if thats still true.

JML isn't fitting into RC's system in Toronto, leafs have too many puck movers, and need a shot blocking d-man who is good in 1 on 1 situations, which is Volchenkov.

Picks on either side to make it even?

EDIT:

Added in option of MacArthur as another possibility in the swap. Devils could use another top six winger.

Devils dont need another dman in return. Subsitute Liles for Kulemin or another winger

The Leafs need a Dman even less. Defintely won't be swapping a forward for Volchenkov, unless it's a forward and a defenseman for him and a prospect/pick.

I would like Volch but where does he fit? I am not sure he could be a top pairing with Phaneuf.

...and if he can't play there, what's the point? And why waste assets on more defensemen, anyway? Centres, please, we need centres.

Clark is too good a player to move in our own division. He would light the lamp on us everytime we play them. I like him here.

Over-payment for MacArthur and JML is not an upgrade over A-Train

Pass.

volchekov for macarthur i would definitely do from a devils perspective. the thing with volch is i think NJ preaches a style of defense that doesnt play to his strengths. there isnt an emphasis on shotblocking at all and its almost like they want his going for big hits tamed. in the right situation i still think he can be a very good defender, especially if he ever got moved out west.

Why are some of you guys in a rush to trade a bunch of players for a UFA that you might have a chance to get in the summer for nothing?

Agreed. We should just keep MacA if he'll sign for a decent amount.
I love our winger group.
Kessel/Lupul
Kuli/JVR
MacA/Frattin
Koramov/MacL

Any and all focus for the Leafs from here on in should be #1 C or #2 defensive defenseman.

I say try and sign Clarkson in the summer and move someone like Kullimen that has value. Clarkson is a far better fit. Him and Frattin on the same team would be fun to watch.

I'm all for signing Clarkson but I wouldn't trade Kuli for the sake of making room. We'd need to actually get good value back. He's a swiss army knife type guy...can play anywhere in the line-up.
