Mid Season Grades

Hard to give many guys bad marks the way this team has started but I'll try to remain objective.

Kaner - A+ I think he's going to win something this year.
Toews - A+
Hossa - A+ Beast mode all the time
Seabrook - A+ Very solid and has looked good jumping in the offensive zone
Crawford A+
Emery A+
Hammer - A Earning his paycheck again, shoot more!
Oduya - A Worth the trade IMO
Leddy - A Put this on the PP
Keith - A returned to his cup form, some offensive issues at the Blueline
Saad - A Everything that was expected while learning on the job
Rosi - A-

Stalberg A Playing a sold all around game, creating space and havoc in the zone, great board play.
Bickell A Where has this guy been for the past two years, hitting, shooting and wicked passes from behind the goal
Frolik B+ Perfect for the role he is in.
Shaw B+ Earning his keep and getting in to the dirty areas. A few too many mistakes.
Brookbank B

Kruger B Much improved
Carcillo B Decent in the games he has played
Sharp C+ Coming on late but not enough finish to earn his pay check
Bolland C -
Mayers C- Best thing he did was fight Torres
Bollig Blah!!!!.

Flame me and rank away.

D- for everybody, especially Ray Emery. What a terrible back up. We should trade our 1st and Morin for Bernier.

I'd give Toews an A-. He's been very good, but I expect excellence from him, and he's been just a tad short of that.

BTW, how crazy is it that we're looking at the team halfway through the season, and we're judging them without having seen them lose?

The downside of this season is that if they fail to win the Stanley Cup, not only will it be disappointing; at this point, it'd almost be embarrassing.

Definitely. How does he still have a job after wasting picks trading for Odoodoo, then resigning him, and failing to get the Hawks a real goaltender. Just a horrible GM. And I bet he likes to kick babies in his spare time.

Everyone gets an A except for Kruger and Bolland, who get Fs for losing so many faceoffs.

Kane: A- There are times I wish he would just skate full throttle into the zone instead of dipsy-doodle and cause us to be offside. He also does it a little too much in his own offensive zone. It's part of his game and he's good at it, but he's also a lightning quick skater and I think he should use it more. Also needs to make quicker decisions on the PP.

Toews: A- I don't think he's really gotten it going offensively, yet. Still been very good.

Hossa: A+ Doesn't need to score or have the puck to make himself visible. I love everything about his game.

Saad: A+ I'm not saying he's on Hossa's level with the same grade. The way I look at it is you have to grade players based on what should be expected given their skill level, experience, and role on the team. Considering that he's a 20 year old rookie I'm blown away by his pokechecking abilities, his nose for the puck, his puck carrying capabilities, and his responsibility in his own zone. Great draft pick by Bowman.

Stalberg: A One of my favorite guys to watch this year. He's become very hard to knock off the puck and has created several scoring chances (for himself or linemates) because of it. Has become much better in the defensive zone, and he's also one of the best at carrying pucks into the offensive zone. Very happy with his contributions.

Bickell: A I wasn't expecting much from him but he's been very good for us this year. Great shot and has been very good around the net. Something we needed this year.

Shaw: A- Got off to the great start last year then struggled . He's made strides and has been a consistent pest all year.

Kruger: A- Knows his role and is playing it quite well. Not a lot of offense, but he's shown great awareness in the defensive zone and has been great on the PK. Something that we've greatly needed this year.

Frolik: B+ He's found his role on this team and has played it quite well. His hands of stone are still a problem as he's missed on a few sure fire opportunities.

Bolland: C I used to be the biggest Bolland fan boy, but he has not been the defensive stalwart he used to be over the last couple of years. Offensively he's been better, but not enough to counteract the drop in his defensive prowess.

Mayers C- Hasn't been horrible but he hasn't been very good either.

Carcillo: D Since he's came back I think he's been the most reckless player on the team. He often flies to the puck with reckless abandon and leaves the team defensively vulnerable because of it. It's a small sample size but I have not been impressed at all this year.

Bollig: D Meh.

Hammer: A He's probably had to of his worst games of the year the last two games, but the body of work has been outstanding. He and Oduya consistently have the best defensive coverage of our defensive pairings.

Oduya: A Showing pretty solid defensive responsibility while also jumping into plays in the O zone when given the opportunity.

Leddy: A+ I really love what Leddy is doing out there right now. He is virtually unstoppable at leading he rush into the zone, has by far the best shot of our blueliners, and is very good with the puck in his own zone. He's also been much better at recognizing when to hang back so that he's not getting beat in transition. Him and Roszival have been a good pairing.

Roszival: A Not sure what you can expect from a #6 Dman, but he and Leddy are likely the best 3rd pairing in the NHL. That's more than good enough for me.

Seabrook: B+ I've ragged on him in the past, but he's been much better over the last year or so than he was in the previous 2. One of my big gripes on Seabs his lack of aggression on puck carriers. When he and Keith were at their best as a pair, they challenged puck handlers and knocked pucks away before they were real threats. Now? They consistently drift backwards, letting guys skate within feet of the net. Seabs also often makes late breaks on puck carriers, getting blown by when it wasn't really necessary. This needs to improve.

Keith: C+ Keith falls asleep WAY too much around the net for my liking. What I can't stand the most about Keith though is that he is AWFUL on the puck. When the puck is around the net he almost always fails to get his stick on it and when he does he fails to clear. There was a prime example tonight; with the puck nestled along the boards, Keith raced to it, stick handled it, and went to softly clear the puck. He whiffed. I see this crap multiple times a game and it leads to scoring chances. If I were Q I would hound Keith in practice to be hard on the puck and clear with authority.

Crawford A+ Been awesome this year. What more is there to say?

Emery A Great backup although he doesn't look like he's seeing the puck as well of late. Still been great all year.

LOL at Cs for Mayers. He's done exactly what's asked of him, and wins more than half his draws. What's there to complain about?

If the Bowman ass licking society can take a breath and let me speak, I give the team straight A's. All we ever wanted was to win all the games and it's happening, everything is great and it feels great.

Even though I knew he was old, it's still kind of shocking to hear he's 34. Sure, he's probably lost a little bit, but man. He's still quite awesome. For being 34, that's quite an accomplishment. I was a little concerned when they signed him to that contract, but when he's healthy, he's still great.

the only player I wouldn't give an A or B is Sharp. He played a bad season so far. Kind of looks like he's saving it all for the POs

Bolland is a B- for me.

This team is loaded. We are undefeated with the captain only playing average hockey and Sharp and Keith being wildly inconsistent and the pp a mixed bag.

This team has the potential to play even better. Think about that.

Bickell and Leddy are playing amazing hockey. If they aren't A+'s you had all-star expectations.

Hardly. He's defensively sound, wins faceoffs and is a decent middleweight. He's boring, but most fourth liners are.

Just wasn't really impressed by them the first 10 games into the season. Right now, they really deserve a A+
