Take this to bank: Keith Ballard signs in his home state of Minnesota, with the Wild. They need third pairing D-man

Matheson has a habit of writing his opinions as fact.

Well they'll get him for cheap ... he was pretty much unplayable in Vancouver.

Well, with Gilbert gone we need all the help we can get in D. Better not be for more than $2-2.5 million though.

Just watch out for Ballard's patented hip check.

Ballard will excel in a new system, good pickup for the Wild if true.

He was pretty awful with the pressure in Vancouver, but being in Minnesota should still be better for him. He can only get better than he was in Vancouver anyway.

Guy isn't as bad as his stay in Vancouver would indicate, good signing for the Wild, hope he can get his career back on track.

You can say you want to take advantage of him defensively, I think it was a lot to do with system fit. I don't know why a team with two key players with a history of concussions would come on this thread and celebrate the signing of a guy that lays people out and plays pretty rugged, might regret that in my opinion.

He was awful when Panthers traded him

Could it just be simple fact he isn't that good anymore?

4 years of people saying "Not right system" "He will bounce back" , etc , etc

He's got a solid skill set and when you watch him game in and game out it just seems like something needs to click. Whether it's confidence or system or I don't know, it's not just a simple case of the guy losing his skill set. He's got a lot of talent, just something not working with him. It either clicks or it doesn't, we see that every day in this sport. In my mind it's a total confidence issue, he loses it easily and mistakes compound leading to a spot on the bench.

I would still do Niskanen for Seto. That would solidify Wild D even more.

Wild Fans
- I think most Vancouver fans will tell you he should be able to bounce back if you pair him with someone reliable and let him play on the left side.

He's a good hard working player that got screwed by AV. I know he'll kick some ass on whatever team he plays on. He's not some brilliant defender, but he brings a lot to the table and will defend his teammates. His hipchecks are awesome. Hopefully he can get some in on Ebbett and Bieksa.
