Tyler Myers & Drew Stafford

Feel that a change of scenery could work wonders for Drew.
What kind of offers would be out there for myers and Stafford package?

Why? There is nothing untouchable about Myers.

You simply cannot package them. It's too much money for too little production between them. No team would ever take both on, let alone give us proper value in return.

Two way, smooth skating defenseman, how he played in his rookie year

He's becoming Coburn. I already said it.

A few years from now he's going to be awesome. And then suck the next year. And then be awesome. And then suck the next year. And so on and so on until he retires.

All the symptoms are there. He's not going to be a consistent #1.

a 23 year old defenceman who has shown that he can be a #1 defenceman for most of his 4 year career is pretty much untouchable for me, even right now he is a very solid defenceman who plays all situations.

At this point, I agree. I'm just saying he can be better than he is right now

So smooth, especially when he jumps in and pinches, the puck goes by resulting in a 2/3 on 1 going the other way. Is he ever going too add any muscle? Its sad to see a 6'8 230LB defenseman who refuses to use his size. He had a great rookie year but ever since he had been regressing.

Buffalo isn't going to move out Myers. Selling low on an investment with the potential of Myers is silly.

Stafford on the other hand....readily available. He's got a meh contract but I think in the right situation he'd be fine. Plus with the option to buy him out next summer, I could see a bigger market taking a flyer on him assuming they have the cap space next year.

I could see Zajac lobbying for him in NJ, or perhaps Edmonton still has soft spot for him

His salary compared to his production makes him pretty damn untouchable, and not in a good way.

He hasn't been smooth this year, I was referring to what he showed in his rookie year, in which he was great. He showed his smooth skating in his rookie year.

IIRC, he tried to add muscle after his rookie year. He just doesn't hit, which is frustrating, I agree

I would say that the best he has ever played wasn't even his rookie year, the best i've seen him was when he played a top 5 defenceman in the NHL at the end of the year a couple seasons ago and into that series against the Flyers, even last year he played like a #1 guy for the last 30+ or so games. He will be very good just be patient because it will be worth it.

It'll happen in a few years. He'll just be pretty bad for a while.

Like I said, they're similar players and this is the exact same cycle that happened with Coburn.

Its not only that. Sometimes it seems like he doesn't know if he want to be a forward or a defenseman. He jumps in the play whether he has help from a forward or not and I've seen him get burned on it more times then not. Just seems like he is getting worse instead of getting better as I haven't been impressed with him defensively or offensively.

after July 1 this year he would have quite abit of value, 20 million over 5 years is pretty good even if he doesn't get alot better.

feels like a trade edmonon would need to get in on.

Yakubov feels like the main peace coming back? Buffalo ends up with 2 very talented russian forwards to focus their rebuild around. Yakubov/Myers feels like it has similar value at this point

Stafford produces decently for a 4 mill second liner with size. He has to be worth at least most of a first round pick back.

So yakubov/edmonton first/and some kid like paajarvi to balance out the differnce for Myers/Stafford?

maybe a cap dump out of Edmonton too if necessary to make the books work?

That is pretty decent, especially since (no offense) Buffalo doesn't seem to be a great place to play currently. If he went to a better team and was a second pair guy with less pressure on him he may develop into what he could have been. Which is a shame, because I've always had a soft spot for the Sabres and really wanted to see him become great in Buffalo.

What do the sabres want for Stafford ?

With Ryder and Armstrong coming off the books, Staffords salary would be able to fit. A big body right handed shot would look good on Galchenyuk's right wing. Or left wing if Stafford is like that.

This. The kid is 23. We just saw Sekera have a defensive break out season last year as a 25/6y.o. What he's accomplished in the league already is very impressive for his age, and we've seen some positive signs from him lately. The way he played in the 3rd period last night was incredible -- breaking up plays in the neutral zone, rushing the puck himself, using his size to protect the puck in the offensive zone while waiting for a play to develop. It would be a big mistake to trade him right now.

Stafford can definitely go though.

Buffalo should probably hold off on moving Myers until at least after next season. See how he does under a new system/coach, he's capable of being much better. Unless of course they get a sweet offer for him, I'm sure a team without any quality dmen would be willing to take a chance.
