#Habs Greg Pateryn is big, strong, rarely out of position. Good shot. Decent power, but importantly gets it through. Skating only average.
Thanks!

You're right that Lefebvre has used his four powerplay d-men mostly interchangably (Holland, Pateryn, Beaulieu, and St. Denis), but lately Holland - Pateryn has started more powerplays than not.

Pateryn has been the team's best d-man since returning from injury. Plays 23-28 minutes a night on top pairing with Beaulieu (or with Tinordi the past two games), getting top PP and PK minutes.

Big, tough, stable/responsible blueliner with a good shot from the point (decent power, but most importantly gets it through). Not a flashy guy, but a team guy and crease-clearer.

I've been advocating Pateryn as top call-up on D for quite a while, so happy with this move and happy for Greg!

Couple questions for those who have watched him:

1)Can he clear the crease?
2)How is his first pass?
3)Can he fight at all?
4)Is his shot more about power or more about accuracy/getting it on net?

Thanks!

EDIT: Post above answered 1,2, and 4.

I've seen Pateryn on the first unit fairly often lately.

I was also going off this:

Dan Kramer ‏@DanKramerHabs
It's frequently Holland - Pateryn at the point on @BulldogsAHL top PP unit, even ahead of #Habs Beaulieu.

I have to say that it's pretty amusing when someone posts, on a hockey prospects board, that they've never heard of one of our prospects, particularly one who is listed in our top 20 . . . Sorry but I find that kinda funny

Back on topic, happy for pateryn

St Denis is injured.. That's why Pateryn got called up.

Pateryn est droitier et a amassé 7pts à ses 14 derniers matchs. Rappel logique, surtout avec la récente blessure de St-Denis. #Habs

@DanKramerHabs: In terms of usage #Habs Greg Pateryn has played 23-28 minutes a night. Big minutes 5-on-5, top penalty kill & top powerplay for @BulldogsAHL

Dan Kramer to the rescue, again! (Seriously, follow this guy on twitter )

Dan Kramer ‏@DanKramerHabs
@WakeUpNHL No, not a fighter. Crease-clearer, but not overly physical. Doesn't look for hits, but takes body when needed. @BulldogsAHL

His shot is reasonably strong, but it has good accuracy, which is key.

Thanks! Sounds good. I figured he'd be a guy that uses his size that way, If he were a monster we'd hear a lot of hype about him. A bigger, balanced bottom pairing Dman is a great piece to add to our team right now. I hope he gets to play. As long as he can muscle guys out of the crease/Protect Price and not be a burden in our own end I'll be very happy.

St. Denis isn't injured. He was, but has been back in the line-up for a few games.

Maybe he's changed, but it wasn't surprising to see Pateryn take some big runs at guys.

fact remains, he's still a nobody. i really only half follow maybe 5 prospects of ours at any one time. i don't care about having followed a kid since he was 14 and bragging rights yada yada. i'm aware of the hopefuls we draft and acquire, but i really only start paying attention to them when they're close to being able to contribute at the NHL level. i follow the NHL. i understand that there is no NHL without farm teams, but it doesn't mean i have to really pay that much attention to be a fan. unless you're a top prospect, i'll start caring once you get called up. few guys we pick out of the 2nd round are worth remembering names of. i personally only 'care' about tinordi, gallagher, beaulieu, leblanc. ask me anything about pribyl or ellis or blunden and i'll tell you i'm aware of their existence and hope they progress. but their names are at most all i really care to know at this point.

He can be physical at times, but he isn't a guy to put himself out of position looking for a big hit. He'll take them when they come to him.

He has one fight this year against a guy in the Minnesota Wild system, Drew Bagnall.

Drew Bagnall is a 29 years old career AHL goon, HW. But you can clearly see that it's not Pateryn's game.

Seriously guys, give your head a check. Pateryn has been one of our top defensive prospect for 2-3 years. GET A CLUE

I suggest you start going to the prospect thread and the prospect board, you will know alot more. If you don't want to watch whole games(where's the fun if you don't do it?) you can just read some analysis(booooooring.)

Yeah, agreed. He'd lay people out, but only when he was sure to get his man and when it was the right play. He's a smart dude. I've been pulling for him ever since the grabovski trade and always thought he was a real dark horse prospect for us. Glad to see him rewarded.

just stop being so condescending jeez, and i'm not saying that to YOU in particular, theres a lot of condescending people on this board its atrocious, I feel like i'm on a Music Board sometimes... "wow you don't know that band who played 1 set back in 1994 in front of 5 people? get a life loser I know them i'm better"
Don't mean to pick on you but i guarantee you that more than 90% of the people on this board know who Greg Pateryn is.......not exactly the same as pulling out obscure music trivia.

Thanks to those who actually WATCHED the guy play for the information.
I hope the kid gets a chance to play 10-14 minutes in one of the Florida games.
Like what I'm hearing: NHL size, strength, crease clearer, sound defense position, accurate point shot.
Played at Michigan...a la Patches and another promising Dman ...Mac Bennett!

He's great on updates, but he gives his own opinions on everything way too much. I want a guy who does updates only. I read enough idiotic comments here.

Nice to bring up some size. Our blueline needs it desperately!
