Crosby yes, but not at any cost!

Crosby has stated he wants to play for MTL. If the habs can find a loophole great. BUT I don't want the habs to trade away 3 top rookies for Crosby. Those three top rookies are almost ready to join the habs after 2-3 years of grooming in the AHL. The impact of those three will realy change the look and feel of the Habs. Crosby would be 2 years away from joining the habs. If the habs could aquire Crosby for 1 current rookie + 2 first round Picks+ a vet like Zednick then this does NOT disturb the core for the next 4-6 years. Anything more and it's too much. As good as crosby is you MUST not take away what the Habs already have waiting in the wings.
What do you say?

Crosby is what we need and what we must get. A real talented superstar in the making.

I'd give up a lot to get my hands on him... Hainsey+Plekanec+Hossa+1st for starters..... I'd go up from there.

I think, more realistically, you'd have to start around this:

Kostitsyn, Komisarek, Danis and a 1st... probably more, maybe an NHL ready guy like Ryder or Ribeiro would need to get thrown in as well, but this is bare minimum for a guy that is being hyped as a possible 'generational talent'.

For the type of hype Crosby has at this point you would have to be willing to give up the following:

1 top 6 forward, 1 top 4 defensemen, 1 highly touted prospect, 1 or 2 first round picks, a conditional 1st round draft pick based on his 1st year performance and a nice lump some of cash

I would trade our top three rookies for Crosby in a second. The three rookies may go on to be good NHLers but you only have so many chances to get a young Jean Beliveau, Bobby Orr or Wayne Gretzky.

We've got too many young up and commers anyway, why not aim for a superstar, now that we've got the depth to do so.

To get Crosby, we would have to overpay. Any team will have to overpay. You can begin with Kosts + Perez + 2 x 1st rounders, and even that may not be enough. The only way I can see Crosby in Montreal is by legal means. If by some means, all draft eligible players for 2005 are declared UFA's by the courts, then we have a chance. I can't see BG stripping the farm for one player, no matter how special he may become.

I agree....I would also add that I don't want to see BG stripping the farm for 1 probeble superstar. What happens if he becomes a Daigle? Won't we look like morons

If we get Crosby, we have our 2nd line center right there for the following season. We could offer Ribeiro++

We might look like morons, but so will the many media types who have their hype machines in overdrive. Honestly, this will be a very special player, who I would love to have in a Habs jersey, but I don't want to kill a good job of finally developing some depth in the farm system.

I'd offer them, one pair of Reebok running shoes, two Reebok basball hats, three pairs of Reebek skates and four Reebok t-shirts.

We should be able to get these items below cost.

If Crosby is not what we are expecting
I think the risk is more into Crosby developping into a
Paul Karya type of player instead of a
"white powder trashed head lucky ******* for having Pamela Anderson
Alexandre Daigle" type of player...

Too much of a risk. I'd rather keep Perezhogin and Kostitsyn and Komisarek etc. and not take the chance with a potential superstar player that may or may nor pan out. Atlanta have Kovalchuk and Heatley and where does it get them? It takes more than one player to win a cup.. and besides, Crosby is small so what's to say he'll be able to live up to the hype in the NHL? He's also young.. nah, it's too much of a risk. If we can find a way to land the boy and not give much up, then by all means but.. don't break the farm!

As mentioned in an earlier thread on the subject, you'll have to give up a king's ransom for Crosby. Where did that get Philly with Lindros?

Chances are almost zero. Bob Gainey is a smart man.

I'd give a good amount for Crosby, sumthin along the line of a top 6 forward 2 top prospects and a first rounder or 2 though he may be worth more I wouldn't overdue it or give much more than that.

The more realistic senario to getting Crosby legally would be us to get him as a free agent when he's in his late 20's cause I would imagine the new cba would include a 'draft' for all eligible players, and a lowered UFA age... I would give pretty much anything in a trade though.... I think BG would be a little more cautious than me though...

I wouldn't trade for Crosby because he would cost too much anyways so why even bother calling the other team..we would need to start with this and i'm not even interested in anything like that:

Andrei Kostitsyn
Alexander Perezhogin
1st round pick
Mike Komisarek

...no thanks..those I see three special players that can do more for a club then Crosby can by himself..
