Lets take Kane and Hossa away from the Hawks and see how well they do. Toews would have to pick up alot of slack. Ladd has some decent players to play with, Toews has all-world players to play with.

1) i think Wheeler is a winger
2) jokinen is a 3c at this point
3) little is the closest thing they have to a first line center and he's really just a solid 2c

I bet the Hawks would still make the playoffs. I like Ladd but come on, he's never had more than 60 points in his career. He's having a great year this year, but thats it.

yeah, Wheeler is a Winger but they have some legit Top6 wingers in Ladd, Wheeler and Kane. Those guys aren't plug ins

they also aren't top end players and again, they are pretty wanting in the center department, they need another top 6 center.

I live Ladd, but are you seriously comparing him with Johnny?

I'm not comparing them as players, I was just stating that Toews has all star players to work with and if he's having an off night he knows that Hossa or Kane are there to help out. The Jets dont have those luxuries. Hawks would still be a playoff team, The West is always tight subtract Kane's clutch plays and Hossas beast modes and were a 5th or 6th place team.

I didn't know E. Kane wasn't a really talented top 6 winger

Hawks top 4 scorers without Toews - 47, 28, 24, 23
Jets top 4 scorers without Ladd - 35, 31, 28, 24

Obviously Kane is the outlier but outside of him, the top scorers score about at the same rate

Hossa and Sharp have missed significant time. Not a very fair way to compare.

Chicago can clinch the #1 seed in the Western Conference with an Anaheim loss against Columbus according to thread on main boards

he's good, but the most point and goals he's ever put up are 57 and 30 respectively in 74 games and he's a little under that pace this year. Is he really THAT good?

The Jets have a lot of work to do. The problem with that team is that many positions are filled but the guys that fill them have a limited ceiling of average to slightly above average. The few they have that have a high ceiling haven't advanced very much. This is a team that could stand to make a big a trade for a proven star IMO. If anyone like Ryan became available, I wouldn't hesitate to offer Kane++ if I was them.

I can't imagine any trade that Winnpieg could make involving Kane and Ryan that would see them improving immediately because of it. They're a tweener playoff team as it is, so they should be looking to acquire pieces by free agency or trading picks, not top line players.

I don't think they can build that team into a meaningful contender via free agency. Could be wrong.

Well yeah, he's one of the best players in the league.

Ladd's a good solid player and is pretty much a yearly 30-goal guy at this point. But he shouldn't be the best offensive player on your roster if you want to go far.

yearly 30 goal guy for a guy that has never scored 30 goals....bold statement.

Ugh, I hate it when people get overly technical.

Would you prefer I call him a "yearly 28 goal guy?"

30 goals is a mark, its like saying 100 points. Just say a guy that can score in the high twenties

Hitting 28 and 29 in back-to-back years and scoring at a 34-goal pace this year... I think making the monumental lexical leap from "high twenties" to "30-goal guy" is reasonable.

montreal looks like they might be first round fodder. if the standings remain as is, i could see the islanders beating them. that defense is porous right now and price/budaj aren't that great this year

Your arguing semantics at this point.

However Hansens point still stands. If a teams best player is Ladd, who is a fine hockey player, that team won't be going far. Ladd is a great #2-#3 piece to a team but not a #1 piece.
