MDZ+ for one of Oilers Big Four

To

Eberle/Hall/RNH/Yakupov

To

MDZ
+

The Oilers may be looking for a shakeup. A young, LH, 2-Way gritty d-man who is under a good contract and RFA status. The Rangers have good defense depth and MDZ could be moved to help with the offense. I feel these teams make good trading partners.

Discuss.

That + better be pretty large, otherwise I would imagine EDM fans won't be pleased.

How about you offer one of your core defenseman on the table (McDonagh/Staal/Girardi) vs the one you're always trying to move (MDZ)? If you're trying to pull a piece out of their core (one of their forwards) you have to make it worthwhile. MDZ is good, just not "he's in my core/future plans" good.

McDonagh+ for Eberle+

Each plus being something small (draft pick, role player)

Maybe , But it will not before Hall or the Nuge . Eberle maybe Yakupov maybe depends on the plus . Any big physical Centers with some upside to them

MDZ isn't the type of defenseman the Oilers need. Staal or McDonagh is.

MDZ is very much part of the core for the Rangers despite what HF would like to think. But if the Oilers would prefer Dan Girardi over MDZ, that's fine with me. From 2008 draft onwards, only defensemen that has more total points were Karlsson and Pietrangelo. His most common linemate last year was Stralman and held his own having a career year.

Top flight defenseman have more value than wingers.

Id say a 22 year old who scored 41 points last season is pretty indicative of what a "core" defenseman is... don't you?

And before any one says that last season was an anomaly... DZ is on pace for 35-36 points again this year (and again, is only 22 years old). His defensive game has come a long way from his rookie year and is now creating the same offense with out sacrificing defense.

Rangers D core won't be touched. Not for RNH who has 1 goal on the year & 8 points (DZ has more goals and points). Not for Yakupov either.

Only swap I might make is a straight 1 for 1 McDonagh for Eberle or Hall. Otherwise no thanks.

Every fan base has a few fans who just hate a player for the sake of hating. We have fans who want to see Lundqvist moved after just acquiring nash and "rebuilding". Don't put too much stock into what some Rangers fans say.

I would be interested in Yakupov+Petry for McDonagh. Not overly interested in MDZ however (not in the sense of parting with 1 of the big 4).

Which of the big four are playing center? Obviously a young top line player is of interest to any team.

Just RNH, I believe. As far as I know their top six centers are RNH and Gagner.

I don't think MDZ is the type of player a young struggling team can lean on. McDonagh would probably be what Oilers would want and Rangers would not want to part with.

Well the Rangers need a left wing, and somewhat less a center. Nash has shown to be better on the right, and the Rangers have Callahan and Gaborik who are both better suited on the right as well.

The consensus seems to be Gaborik will likely be dealt this offseason, though I'm not a big fan of that.

The reason MDZ comes up in trade proposals is for the same reason, more or less. MDZ is a left defenseman, who can play the right as well. Staal and MCD are rated higher, and play the left. Girardi is our only dependable right handed defender, so he isn't going anywhere.

As a Ranger fan the idea of MDZ+ for Hall is enticing. We could then trade Gaborik in the offseason for a puck moving defenseman from the western conference.

We won't need a top center ostensibly until 2 years from now, when its believed Richards will be bought out of the rest of his contract. But its also possible that by that time, Stepan will be ready for that role.

From the Oilers, Girardi and Staal are a bit older. Not old, but if they wanted a guy who would fit in age wise with the sort of budding dynasty that they have, MDZ and MCD are more likely to fit the bill.

It would be easier/faster/better for EDM to get another top 3 pick.

MDZ for Yakopv is fair.

Eberle, Nugent or Hall, NY adds...

Hall or RNH will not be moved, one of Eberle or Yak I would move but we need a dman that is big, left shot, is good defensively and can move the puck up the ice.

Out of your dmen I would be interested in McD. A top pairing of McD and J.Schultz would be perfect.

The positive thing if we get another top 5 pick is we will get a player that we can really use whether it is a 2C or top pairing dman.

Remember PITs had five in a row top 5 picks. EDM only had 3. Grant it 3 were top pick but hey I am not complaining.
