I for one am proud of our run, and it was a lot of fun to watch. Our guys played some great hockey and had many great moments along the way. At some point, every team will have a loss, or even a game with a complete breakdown, and this was it for us for the first time this year.
That all being said, before our first game against the Avs, I remember telling a few friends that of any our recent opponents the Avs had the best shot at beating us and snapping our streak. The last couple years, no matter how bad the Avs were, we simply had problems with them. Their speed really seems to give us fits. Even if we are the "better" team overall, they just haven't been a good matchup for us. Even in our win on Wednesday, the Avs beat us to a lot of pucks --- not because of a lack of hustle by us, but because of superior speed by them.
It was a rough game, but I enjoyed the streak, and am sure we will move past this and continue to play good hockey. The most important thing is to keep our guys healthy and keep focused over the second half of the season. We have a HUGE lead right now, but can't simply play "not to lose" every night. This streak did one great thing for us: It made our opponents want to beat us each and every night that much more, and made our guys want to win for the same reason. Many of these games were like playoff games. If that goes away, and we are just playing to contain our lead, we will falter. We just need to keep the game-to-game focus up and we will continue to do well, and I think this team has the leadership to do that.
Congrats on a great game to Colorado, and congrats to the Hawks for this historic run! There was a lot of fun and great memories along the way, now let's end this season with another Cup run!
