Marlies bound, if eligible.

Good replacement for Jake.

How has this thread gone 4 pages? When I saw this, I thought it would be answered with a "No, Marlies" and it would be locked and we would move on.

He is not joining the Leafs. He will join the Marlies. That's that, there's nothing else to discuss.

I see nothkng wrong with giving NHL talent a shot id give him 5 games regardless of playoff position. Hopefully we move out 2 d by the deadline

Marlies would be the obvious choice.

Marlies and Leafs, this season, if not Leafs right away.

Let's say Morgan Rielly is guaranteed to have success this season, do people care if we burn his ELC?

I don't.

Only time I can see Rielly getting with the Leafs this year is maybe some practice time after his season before he reports to the Marlies and then maybe the last game or 2 of the season and playoffs if injuries hit in a big way. Otherwise he'll be in the AHL pretty much guaranteed, no reason to burn a year of his contract for less than half a season when Gardiner's still waiting and is probably a better NHL defenceman right now than Rielly.

I would. He needs to dominate the AHL just like all our prospects of his calibre are expected to before promotion. The depth chart on defense indicates a slow process is the one he will be following to the leafs.

Lets see how he handles top minutes in the AHL first.

If your teaching your kid to swim do you throw him in the deep end or let him find his stroke in the shallow end? It seems logical to me to let him play with the Marlies and see if he's going to push for a spot next year

He doesn't need a look from the Leafs, except to maybe satisfy our curiousity. He had a solid year in MJ but was not overwhelming the league, and unfortunately played on a really weak team. I am a little surprised he wasn't dealt to a contender by the Warriors, but they must have hopes of him returning next season. Maybe the Leaf brass have said they aren't in a hurry, or maybe they are just hopeful.

The Marlies gives him a chance to play on a strong team with playoff expectations and to maybe have a chance to contribute more than a cup of coffee with the big club. I don't necessarily agree that he will need a season on the AHL before playing but he is a long ways from the show right now. Carter and Richards both did two playoff runs with Philly's AHL team and that was enough seasoning for them to step into the NHL at 20. There's a few different scenarios. I am just glad he will be playing somewhere other than MJ pretty soon.

The way I've read it in the past, the rules dictate the decision for the Leafs. He has to go to the AHL, he can only come up to the Leafs after the Marlies season is done. The Bruins have Khokhlachev in the same situation.

Dominate the AHL?

I hope Dallas Eakins gives him a chance to dominate.

I like Eakins a lot but he gives a lot of ice time to his veterans.

Jesse Blacker is a lot better than the numbers he puts up in the AHL.

Rielly has too much skill to have to dominate the AHL to earn a spot on the Leafs.

Rielly and Gardiner will be in the NHL next year.

Bring up Gardiner to the Leafs and give Reilly the chance to be his replacement on the Marlies.

Gardiner has a awful pile of minus games with the Marlies.K eep both with the Marlies, and demote Holzer before his confidence is destroyed is my thinking. The Marlies need the help, and whats the rush anyways.

+/- is an awful measure of individual skill.

Besides, Marlies goaltending hasn't been great as of late as well.

Usually, however in a 48 games season the NHL set the limit at 6 games, and when a player plays in his 7th this year a full year of his entry level contract expires.

My god I hope its the NHL.

The Leafs need some defensive puck mobility.

Read somewhere he'd be elligible for a Marlies call-up come March 18th. Any truth to that?

Most definitely the Marlies. I'd be shocked if he played a single game with the Leafs this year
