It's not necessarily the value of "dangling" so much as the ability to play a defenseman one-on-one.

When Gaborik goes one-on-one with a defender, it's as good as a guaranteed turnover.

When Nash goes one-on-one with a defender, there's a significant chance he's going to turn it into a scoring chance.

Nash does it in a pretty fashion, but the prettiness of it is not where the value lies.
