So if you don't want Jones, seems like you have to take Drouin. That's impressive.

Re Nurse: anyone watched him? Some concerns about him being "raw", which is fair enough, but comparisons to Tyler Myers make me nervous. Not sure I want to 'waste' our 1st pick on a project/high potential player.

Another guy that the scouting reports have been talking about is Dauphin (from gmjhl). Seen comparisons to Giroux
I want Comrie too, but I'm a little bit biased..

Yeah, I used to be the guy that said No Drouin or MacKinnon, but after seeing some clips and looking at some stats you really can't say no to Drouin. He may be short, but he doesn't play small. He'll be a stud.

Size and skating are really the only similarities. Nurse has more physicality and nastiness in his pinky finger than Myers has in his whole body.

He only gets the "raw" title because of how crazy his upside is, in my opinion.

He's already a very good OHL defensemen with tools to be a solid NHL defenseman.

Thanks.

Would anyone trade Hemsky or Gagner for (another) top 10 pick in the draft?

With the top10 of this draft, even though it won't help our team for a couple of years, I think you'd have to make a trade like that.

No to Gagner- he stays.

Hemsky i'd deal for a top 10 pick for sure (maybe something to CBJ for one of their picks?), but I think a more likely return is a late first (20-30) from a playoff team at the deadline.

Getting Gauthier in the system would be really valuable. Worst case scenario he turns into a Gaustad type, which I think we can all agree we'd love to have.

Gaustad without the meanness and face-of ability.

If we get a second first rounder, the pick will be Lazar. Almost positive of that.

I don't. He's Teubert all over. He's way to much of a defensive liability for a guy with 0 offense. Mark my words, Houck (his teammate who leads them in scoring, plays every situation, is a great forechecker, and loves to throw his weight around) will be drafted after him, and end up hands down the better player

Gauthier is suposed to be a great 2-way player. That more than makes up for being a bit lesser on the dot.

My point is the Oil often draft guys who if they don't pan out as top 6 players, have no spot on the team. Even if Gauthier's offence doesn't come with him from junior, its very likely he still turns into a valuable player.

no, no, no, no... the time for trading *actual NHLers* for magic beans is over... it's time to stop the rebuilt and start actually being a good team

yeah drouin's production has been pretty crazy... does anybody know what his production has been without mackinnon in the lineup? just trying to see if one of them is leeching off the other in any significant way

the thing with drouin is that he is small and he isn't the fastest skater... a lot of guys can get around being small, but it's usually through elite skating ability, and from what i've heard drouin doesn't have that (although it's not exactly a weakness either)

edit:

I guess calling it the Crosby effect would be more apt.

Gagner is worth more than a top 10 pick. Hemsky I would be ok moving him if we can get Lazar.

Drouin looks pretty fast to me. Not Mackinnon fast, but fast with quick acceleration.

If Eberle could get by with his speed so can Drouin. Both being about the same size at their draft years.

Depends where the Oilers pick but I don't see how they can take Drouin or Shinkaruk. I do like Barkov.

1st - Jones
2nd - Mackinnon/Trade down to 3 or 4 if you know you get Barkov
3rd - Barkov
4th - Barkov
5th - Lindholm
6th - Monahan
7th - Nurse
8th - Nischushkin
9th - Lazar/Zadorov
11th - Gauthier
12 - Ristolainen

Pulock I have a little further down the list, his defensive game has struggled on a poor Brandon team where he was expected to be better.

Drouin skates a lot like RNH.

Not overly fast, but quick and slippery.

Drouin is great but he wouldn't be a good fit on the Oiers. A top 6 with Nuge, Hall, Yak, Ebs and Drouin is way to small and we would get dominated by bigger teams and in the playoffs.

For guys that will say trade the other pieces.....my question is for who ? And why would we want to continue along the path of getting younger? As good as Drouin is he will still need a few seasons before he will start dominating (look no further than our current guys).

The top 6 is super talented and there isn't much of a separation between the guys. We will get a good player (if selecting there). This isn't Parise all over. The top of the draft class is the cream of the crop.

Plus winger is < than center or #1 dmen. There are stats to back this up.

So as good as Drouin is I don't want the Oilers to take him if a comparable center is available. I'm willing to give up 5-10 points per season and take Mack, Barkov, Lindholm (trade down), or Monahan (trade down) for addressing the real needs of this team (center, dmen, grit, face off ability, defensive awareness).

But that is just me.

I find his overall game is that much of a good comparable. His stick handling, heady game and great elusiveness created by his shiftiness. Good vision and great hands.

Quite surprised I don't hear this comparable more often. Perhaps Hopkins is too recent of a selection mosts tastes. Loves to play off the same off-wing wall too.

Skill-wise I think he's at the top of the class. But for obvious reasons that is t the priority in selecting a redundant player for our crop this year. I say that with tense apprehension.

I'd take Drouin, I think you almost have to if he's available, though I doubt (once again) that the Oilers will pick high enough to have to debate this.

Drouin I think will end up going no.1 overall. His numbers are some of the most dominant coming from junior since Crosby.

I think you could see something like

1. Drouin - Florida
2. Mackinnon - Columbus
3. Jones - Buffalo
4. Barkov - Calgary
5. Lindholm - Edmonton
