Yeah to me, Dater tends to over exaggerated to get hits like he did with the Giguere story.

Any hope left is Dater did say they didn't use the word concussion, but what other head injury could a guy have coming off a two year concussion?

E: Hishon was in a vulnerable position there and guy pushed his arms towards his upper body making Hishon's head hit the metal lining, reminds me of when Wilson sustained that dirty hit by Laperre last season. Tenute, I don't think he wanted to injury Joey, but deserved everything he got from Maggio.

Maybe he got his face cut buy the puck or a skate

That was more or less just a matter of time.

Even if he got a concussion, we have no idea how serious it is. The season is over and there are five months until training camp. No reason to assume the worst.

Did Tinordi even get a "Third Man" penalty? He came in and his gloves did come off.

Maggio and Tinordi fought again last night right after the puck dropped to start the game. Refs at every level need to take charge of games and keep the dirty play under control.

I echo everyone else here, I feel terrible for Hishon getting injured again.

Don't mean to get all preechy but this comes to mind now:

James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

This kid is experiencing the kind of adversity that makes us look to religion to understand how/why/wtf. There's four outcomes I can think of:
1. He comes through it all and has an NHL career.
2. He doesn't and permanently damages himself trying to keep going.
3. He looks around and realizes this is a game and there are other ways to make a living and chooses one of them.
4. He got cut/bruised and Dater went all sensational on us.

As we don't yet know the full details I wouldn't want to be presumptuous but seriously...if it is a concussion after having already shut it down for so long, I think he should take option 3. I'd still be a fan of his and would want nothing but the best for him. Heck, if that was what was to happen he could probably write a book about his experiences and do pretty well. I'd buy.

I seriously hope it's nothing more than Dater being a ******-bag and trolling die-hard fans though. This isn't about page hits...it's about a kid who has tremendous skills and has faced some serious roadblocks in life. When Dater says,
"Terrible news: Joey Hishon, the likable 2010 first-round draft pick of the Avalanche who recently returned to action with the Lake Erie Monsters after missing nearly two years with a concussion, may have another one.
Right now, the Avs/Monsters are calling it a “head injury” for Hishon, and that’s all the info I have."
He's either implying/hoping it is one so he can say we heard it here first or he's just trying to get more traffic...and that would be tragic. Granted the AVs feed this kind of speculation by being so tight lipped about everything but seriously....I think I'll untuck the panty wad and get on with the rest of my day now....Hope to hear something a little more uplifting or at least concrete in the next few days.

I feel bad for hoping he like broke a jaw or something other than a concussion. Gotta feel for the guy.

Edit. After watching the video a few times, it's not something like a broken jaw or a cut. He got his bell rung... I'm going to hope he just got dazed.

It wasn't really a fight between Maggio and Tenute, it was more or less Maggio jumping and beating on Tenute. So I can understand how the "third man" didn't get called.

That really sucks for Hishon. Good job by Daniel Maggio to step up after the hit, that's just the kind of player the avs need.

Friggin career minor league that runs around like that, and appears to never fight, might have seriously jeopardized a young promising player's career on a completely unnecessary hit.

You guys know I'm a Habs fan as well, but dear God I wished Bordy was there just to beat the snot out of Tenute. I hope he gets kicked to the curb this offseason.

This is why we waited so long to bring him back, hopefully by now he's finally recovered so this concussion is far less detrimental. But if he retires I would also not be surprised.

That surely depends on the person. How many times did lindros get laid out?

He would have just turtled. He's 5'9" 190 lbs and a career minor leaguer that never fights. This was his only fight this year. That's why Tinordi jumped in to save his ass.

You may have a point though, maybe if Bordy was on that line with him, Tinordi would have been too scared to jump in. Then again Tenute might not be alive.

Their understandings of concussions was different back then, and even back then Lindros accused Philly of bringing him back too early.

The understanding now is that if the concussion is fully healed, it shouldn't make it any more likely to get another one. Lindros clearly was not healed a lot of those times, as were many players of that era.

We can only hope that the Dr's were right, and Joey was finally healed.
