Didn't know Iain have written about him, not that I'm surprised.

Goldie is speed and grit. A guy you could throw in any situation a he would perform well. Would work as a glue guy on a second line in a pinch in the ATD I believe. He's our backup in basically all areas except at center. If someoen goes down Prodger will take his place. My father used to talk at length about this player, shame that neither me or him never wrote anything down

Iain said he was going to do a detailed profile on Prodger. I'm looking forward to it. I think there's a very good chance he was better than Bert Corbeau or either of the McNamaras (sorry to pick on them, but I'm naming other NHA/pre all-star NHL defensemen who are also something of mysteries). The fact that his teams always got better when he joined and always got worse when he left is pretty compelling.

Edit: I think Prodger is probably better as a defenseman than Bob Dailey, who I took with my last pick, but I needed a specific skill set for my #6, and I just didn't see a lot to go on how Prodger played.

I suppose we'll take Arkady Chernyshev to recreate what may be the most successful all-time coaching staffs.

Surprised it took you so long to draft him after drafting Tarasov, to be honest

Since you guys have both of them, maybe you can answer why Chernyshev was almost always listed as the head coach of the national team with Tarasov his assistant?

In Lawrence Martin's The Red Machine, that is explained. Tarasov was not diplomatic with Soviet politicians in a politically-charged Cold War era and Chernyshev smoothed over political and public relations and Tarasov concentrated on coaching.

He was on our radar for the last 5-6 rounds. We didn't really need an assistant, so other things took priority.

I just assumed it was politics, since Tarasov wasn't really liked by the Soviet leaders. I might actually look into it this draft

Oh and thanks to Hobnobs for making my pick. At Pick 656 Baltimore is proud to select backup goalie Evgeni Nabokov

The 2001 NHL rookie of the year Nabokov ranks 21st all time in the NHL in goalie wins. He should be a solid backup behind Worters.

The Boston Mules select Jimmy Roberts - D/LW

Still debating with myself to use him over Al Shields for the #6 d-man slot as opposed to a spare....

Good pick, but isn't he a RW/D?

He's been bounced back and forth.

With Peterborough he was a defenseman
With the Montreal Royals I'm not sure.
With Hull-Ottawa he was a RWer one year and a defenseman for most of the next.
With the Montreal Canadiens I've seen him listed at both, I think he spent his first 3 years as a defenseman but I just don't know what the breakdown was.
With the Blues he was mainly a RWer I believe.

I really don't know, other than knowing that he was a jack of all trades and was goods on the PK.

I just think he's too valuable as a spare and I want to know if it is justifiable to use him as my #6.

With our 21st selection, the 664th in this year All-Time Draft, les Nordiques de Quebec are extremely proud to select, from Franklin, Massachusetts, United States, head coach Peter Laviolette

"We feel that Coach Laviolette is about as ideal a fit for the style of team that we have built that remained at this point in the draft. Lavi's up-tempo style fits the team quite well and his excellent line-matching should allow for the team to take advantage of any weaknesses in opposing lineups. Based on his success at the AHL and NHL levels of coaching, with two championships including a Stanley Cup and another finals appearance, he brings the experience needed for this level of the ATD. Vending machine repairmen in Quebec have been notified of this selection."
