well we traded teubert AND a 1st for penner.
nashville also trade a 1st for gaustad (stoll).

a lot of teams would love to have the size and playoff experience that Penner brings.

a low first rounder from a BUYER isn't that crazy to me.

Penner makes 3m Stoll makes more.....

No team is going to take on that salary, even bottom feeders.

The Kings would have to pay someone a 1st rounder to take both salaries.

Folks....The Cap is going DOWN A LOT next year.

keep things in perspective.

Yes, but I don't look at that one really. Who determines the values assigned to the players? What criteria? You can't even look and see what was assigned to each player. Rather vague.

Using simple averaging of the ages, we are 3rd.

I have no idea. It says "Analysis only takes into account players who are part of the current roster: If a player is traded to another team, he is excluded from the average age of the old team and added to the age of the new team," but I don't know when it was last updated, so that may include Gagne, it may not. I'd assume it includes Greene and Mitchell.

We paid that when Penner was coming off a 30+ goal season and had 21 goals in 62 games at the time of the trade. He's had 14 goals (including the playoffs) in 126 games since that tarde and been a healthy scratch many times. We aren't getting a first for Penner.

The Gaustad deal, well that's just nuts, but i do agree it happened. That said, I'll eat crow if we get a 1st for Stoll (at least Stoll by himself). A 2nd, such, but not a 1st.

It's a moot point though, as I can't see how we'd end up dealing him unless we blow a tire and fall out of the playoff race.

Penner's a UFA after this season.

Our average age for D is ~26 according to the site.

Let's wing it (figures off the top of my head)

DD 23
VV 23
Muzz 24
Ells 24
Amart 25
44DD 28
Scuds 34

Avg 25.8

If you add Greener (29)

Avg 26.3

With Greener and WM (35)

Avg 27.2

I realize the decimals are all kinds of wrong, but we can conclude WM is definitely not in the calculation, and it is unlikely Greener is either. My simple averages are in actuality higher due to my laziness in looking up everyone's birthday and calculating the decimal of everyone's age.

I did use the average function for the current Kings team in a spreadsheet program incl. guys like Toffoli, Richardson, Drewiske (No Greene or Mitchell)
Our rosters average age: 26,29166667

Just fyi also the average of current rosters average weight: 210,0416667 lb

The general gist of the OP is right, we don't have much we can or will trade. But if Greene comes back and is well, what do we really need? We're dropping four to six goals on the opposition (sometimes in one period). Unless Iggy or Alfie is coming for a 2014 2nd and a minor prospect, I don't see us acquiring anyone from another team for the playoff run. Once Greener is back, it will take a tremendous amount of defensive role pressure off both Kopitar and Doughty.

Then we'll have both Jons in net,
Ellerby and DD44 as backup D (VV can back up DD8 and AMart can replace VV if needed),
Toffoli can back up the top six along with Lewis and Clifford, and
Richardson can back up the top six.
Carter and/or Richards can back up Kopitar as well.

We should be set and we can restock our prospect pool without losing any more prospects with Ellerby taking over for Hickey.

Just stay healthy Carts! Protect your feets!

So you include the three youngest guys of the 5 who aren't playing, but not the two oldest? If you're going to exclude the injured, shouldn't you exclude the healthy scratches too? I mean Greene's played one less game than Richardson this season.

Agree, though I think we'll do something minor to add some depth. Outside of Richardson we don't have any veteran depth that can come in in case of injury, and we've been remarkably injury free for the most part upfront this season. We get a rash of injuries like we did on D, we could be in trouble.

I could see us targetting a Vaclav Prospal for that reason (assuming he is a UFA after the season). A vet who can play on any of the top three lines if needed really.

Mitchell is not on the roster right now and Greene is on IR. So they should be left off right now.

I just did the current Kings healthy roster...
But there you go - todays starting roster (No Mitchell, Greene, Drewiske, Bernier, Toffoli, Richardson) average age: 26,32258065

The Kings average Jersey number (No Gagne & Mitchell) is: 28,41666667
The Kings average name (first name + last name, no Gagne & Mitchell) has: 13,33333333 letters.
The age sum of the team (no Gagne & Mitchell): 631 years
The weight sum of the team (no Gagne & Mitchell): 5042 lb

Pancake Penner (245lb) carries only 4.86% of the teams weight (No Mitchell & Gagne).

For the reference, I used kings.nhl.com numbers...

Except for the fact that either one of those players could play on any given day. Where a non roster player would have to be added to the roster and a person on IR would have to come off.

We don't know who will or won't play on any given day from the players on the roster until game time when scratches are announced.

Chronically underrated...I thought he had signed an extension for some reason but apparently not? I'd love Prospal for depth but I doubt he's going anywhere and I can't stomach the idea of giving CBJ more stuff.

He reupped with Columbus last year, but it was just a one year extension (this year) so he's a UFA after the season. He apparently has a No Movement Clause though, so he'd have to ok any trade.

CBJ is in the playoff picture (don't laugh, it's true - kind of)

He's not going anywhere.

I think it's more where things are at a month from now (or however long until the trade dealine). They are on a great roll right now, but they easily could be out of the playoff picture by then.

Prospal is the guy I've been wanting us to pick up as a rental. Who knows if he'd want to come here though.

LAK the youngest team in the NHL, was the mention on Saturday's coverage of the Kings-Flames game on CBC.

It would take a collapse to have us out of the playoff race by the deadline. .500 hockey keeps us in the thick of things and even a better than not chance to make the playoffs. And after the game tonight we now have 6 in a row vs pac division teams.

I was referring to Columbus, not the Kings. If Columbus falls off by the trade deadline, Prospal could easily be in play.
