Oh man, my wife is really pissed off. She found out about Sanders possibly leaving and flipped.

Good thing we didn't buy that Sanders jersey she wanted after Ward retired

Why not? He's a familiar face in the locker room, as is William Gay.

I don't mind the Steelers bringing back former players that can contribute.

Spaeth ain't much but he's an upgrade over what they've had as depth TE's over the past few years. Amazingly they never really could replace him after he left for the Bears.

Matt Spaeth ‏@MattSpaeth89

I'm so lucky/blessed/happy to be rejoining #steelernation

This is just painful. I even joked at work that Spaeth would be back. This team has no direction right now. I'd rather cut ties with almost everyone and try to rebuild with youth.

This is going to be 2-3 frustrating years. Then MAYBE get lucky (if we draft well) and steal a SB at the end of Ben's career.

The AFC North division isn't great though. The Ravens roster has been raided even more than the Steelers. The Browns still don't have a proven QB and the Bengals are the Bengals. You never know what you'll get from that team. The Steelers can still be good in that division if Ben stays healthy and a few guys like Worilds, Allen and Woodley step up. The O-Line is as young and talented as it's been in a long time.

Very true, CH. I'm not talking our division, though. I'm talking about actually competing for a Super Bowl.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I think that window is shut for now. Like you said, a big draft or two and maybe they get one late in Ben's career.

Aw to heck with it, let's just blow the whole damned thing up!

Move Big Ben to Arizona for the #9 pick and their first next year.

Then trade Polamalu to San Fran for the #31 and #34 picks.

Instant rebuild

Come on, now. I would never say that. And truthfully, 3 in Ben's career would be amazing. Beyond amazing. I can't believe we even got two. But it's really frustrating being a Steeler fan right now. We preach about character and blue collar work ethic in this city and.... yeah.

Anyone who gives us that much for Troy is idiotic. That contract + his health issues? I wouldn't be SHOCKED if 2013 were his last season.

Yeah everyone complaining about our crappy cap situation should remember that the reason we are here is because of restructuring salaries to keep us competitive for a decade and go to 3 Superbowls. I'm very happy with how this era has played out and can deal with a few down years at point.

I was just joking around. Heck if we actually stay healthy and add a decent RB and WR we could make the playoffs next year. If Ben didn't get hurt last season I have no doubt that we make the playoffs over Baltimore.

So much confusion with the Sanders situation.

Gerry Dulac

Quote:
Emmanuel Sanders has signed an offer sheet with the New England Patriots that will force the Steelers to match the offer or let him go, too.

Sanders is a restricted free agent who received a $1,323,000 tender from the Steelers. That means if they decline to match the offer he received from the Patriots, the Steelers would receive a third-round choice in this year's draft in return from the Patriots

Sanders left New England Friday without an offer, and of the 40 restricted free agents who were available in 2012, none changed teams.

Patriots still mulling whether to sign Steelers WR Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet. So far, no decision made and no offer sheet signed.
About 7:30 Saturday morning, nothing yet per Schefter.

Or, as he'll become known as, Tall Heath. Not to be confused with Young Heath (Paulson), or Original Recipe Heath (Miller)

This is in response to the yinzers, who for years claimed Tomlin can only win with Cowher's roster. Rooney's don't want to find out the hard way if this is true or not.

1st rounder or pick in the round where the guy was originality drafted

Well... we don't have anyone to even replace him with. Even Ryan freaking Mundy signed someone else and he was the epitome of hot garbage.

If Troy is healthy - he's a star player. But it's much like Bob Sanders anymore where you have one of the best players in the game and they just can't get on the field for a consistent amount of time.

I hope Troy retires a Steeler. Man oh man is he a great guy.

Safety is a big draft need. I wouldn't even rule out drafting one in the 1st depending what's still on the board.

I'd rather take a safety than a WR if the top LB guys are gone around when we pick.

This draft is deep at safety. Drafting one early is a mistake. Get a NT in round 1 or 2 and one of the top pass rushers in one of those two rounds as well.

Round 1 - Jesse Williams
Round 2 - Jamie Collins
Round 3 - Eric Reid

I cannot remember this many young players up and leaving the Steelers so early in their careers. Really speaks to the vibe around the team currently. It's not good.

What type of compensation are we looking at for Lewis, Wallace, and Sanders? 3rds?

can someone give me a quick rundown of what's happened so far? who have we added and who have we lost? Is there anything like a capgeek and a free agency tracker for the NFL?

edit: I've gathered Lewis, Wallace, Sanders, Mundy and Harrison out and Gay and Spaeth in. Is that right? Because that's no good. And why would we get compensation for guys? RFA? I know so little about NFL outside of the games themselves

Wallace - 3rd in 2014
Lewis - 4th or 5th in 2014 (it'll depend on his production at this point)
Sanders - 3rd in 2013 if he signs with someone else and we don't match
