The Rangers do tend to do that. Probably to make Lundqvist look better if the Rangers win.

We finally put 3 on Holtby today, that was long overdue. Not that he's a backup, I actually like him alot, but he always seems to dominate us
The Rangers do tend to do this alot. I think they get too fine with a less than stellar goalie in net thinking they can just snipe him at will. They start aiming at corners. We gotta keep it simple and get the puck to the net like we would any goalie.
But it seems like alot of teams do this, and I think it's because we forget that there's only 30 spots for these guys as starters. So the backups are still world class. Imagine how many incredible talents would be left on the bench if there were only 30 starting forwards.
The Canucks can't score against against any goalie. In our last 4 games we have averaged exactly 1.5 goals per game, resulting in 4 straight losses. This complete suckitude and inability to score has been our downfall (mixed with attrocious defense) - in our last 12 games we have 3 wins, 9 losses. [Watch out Florida, we're comin to getcha!]
However, keeping this in mind, the answer to the question is yes... because we not only lose to backups, we get completely dominated and usually shut out by them. And I'm not just talking about backups - I'm talking about journeymen, first-game-ever-in-the-NHL backups. They shut us out routinely.
