Does Plekky's last performances worry you?

As a big Plekanec fan, I must admit Ive been rather desapointed in the last 2 games.. He was'nt as agressive on the puck as usual and was'nt overall as effective... He is known as a very intensive player, a real competitor but I think this is catching him up... He felt several times on the ice and seemed tired... Hope he will bring it back in the playoffs...

Any thoughts?

He might be injured, he might have been particularly tired...

Either way, it's only a 2 games sample.

But I maintain that Higgins is the much readier prospect.

Not all all, I thought his game on Wednesday wasn't too bad but last night was worse, except for 3-4 shifts. It's a long season and he is in a dip right now. He's too much of a competitor not to bounce back.

Every player goes through highs and lows during a season. This is Plekanec's third year with Hamilton. He won me over during his rookie year with his work ethic and ability. He'll snap out of this temporary funk. Hopefully, that will be what leads Hamilton to securing a playoff birth. Plekanec is an essential part of the Bulldogs. They need him in order to thrive. Go Plekanec! Go Bulldogs!

I don't worry about it

He looked ok tonight from what I saw, no worries. His overall production is down from last year but he's scored more goals and taken a lot more shots. Him and Higgins look great on the PK together. For a large part of the season, Plekanec and Higgins have been a major part of the teams offense, so while Plek's doesn't have the assist he put up last year, he has looked good all season long as a few bad games don't mean anything. I've seen about 20 games this year live/tv and some games these two were the only reasons for enjoying the game, especially Higgins, who's worked hard every shift I've seen this year.

His performances is ok for me.

It's not like he's the only player who struggled during the season...

Could have something to do with not being on the same line as Balej this year... last season Josef was scoring goals in buckets, so that was obviously a boost to Pleks' assist totals.

Not at all, the games I've seen him perform at a great level outweight greatly the one I've seen him be average and the other I've only heard about.

Hes a great 3rd/2nd line player who'll be put in any kind of situation. I have confidence in his ability but I fear he's always gonna be the odd man out when looking at our prospect chart(like he was last year).

I heard the Julien interview after the first and once again he mentions that Plex needs to be more consistent. I have heard this before from Julien and Gainey as well. When Begin joined the Dogs, the first thing he mentioned about Plex was his defense.

From the sounds of it, Plex needs to be better on the defense side. I really do wonder about his place in the NHL? Does he have enough skill to be a second liner if he isn't capable defensively to be a 3rd or 4th liner ?

To be honest, you calling him "Plekky" worries me a lot more then his recent play.

It does not realy worry me. It's only a couple of games. He played great all season long. Plekanec and Higgins are great on the PK together I hope we will be able to see them together in the NHL someday.

Seriouly.. for half of the season the team had no offensive threats but Pleks and Higgins...

Not that Ward picked it up a bit, and with the arival of Miettinen and Bégin, things are better, but it'S hard to have great numbers with no team around you.. ask Koivu

Last year Balej, Hossa and Perez were there to create offense, and they were good at it, with higgins and Pleks, those were 5 great offensive guys (well, for the AHL anyways in Hossa's case)

He had 2G 2A, in the past 2 games. Not enough to suit you guys?

Needs Balej? He's doing much better this season than Balej himself.

Why does he look tired at times? Ask Jarvis. He keeps putting him on the ice.

To be fair, the original question wasn't asked after the last 2 games, it was asked after the previous 2, where Pleks did a bit of a disappearing act. Since those 2 previous were the games that were on TV and maybe the only chance a few got to see him recently, it was a fair question.

Don't forget Gratton. He created tons of opportunities for the younger guys and was always the top PPG guy on the Bulldogs, the guy the other teams had to send their top checker out against.

The team has just now got over the loss of Gratton, IMO. But it was a good move for the young guys (esp. Plekanec and Higgins)... they became the key guys on their team and had to adapt to those challenges.
