I've said this for some time, how quickly people forget. Belanger was terrible last year and sources confirmed that he was not happy and was a bit of a cancer last year. He's a 55% face off man that can't skate.

Moving forward he is not what you need as a 4th line center, he has NO energy.

Trade him for a pick ANY Pick, clear a roster spot.

Belanger as a 4th line C >> Smyth on 4th line..

Also, we couldve used his faceoff skills last game..

Also, Belanger has been our best forward on PK this season.

The moment they drafted Nuge, we had a problem

Three centers

Gagner-Horcoff--Belanger --scrub at 4

Add Nuge and that moves everyone down one spot in the dept chart.
Sounds like the Oilers tried to trade Belanger twice, once this year for Connolly but becuase he has one year left after this it was turned down.

Belanger was brought in for his face off work and it was hoped he would bring his usually 10 to 15 goals a year to the team. Looking at his linemate, it looks like teams put their kids with him and much of his out put was based upon who he played with.

only one year left and he is gone. Hopefully Lander can step it up and take that spot

I agree he's a step up on Smitty as the 4th line center spot but that's not saying much, Smitty should be a healthy scratch.

I would much perfer a more physical center that would compliment Eager and Brown, Boyle, White would be ideal...

Belanger, Smyth, Potter serve no purpose, along with Krugar, Tambo and K lowe

If I can find the on-line report I will post it

When Connolly was on waivers early in the year, report from TO was the Oilers tried to trade for him, but insisted the Leafs take a player back--problem was that he had a contract beyond this year--Some people speculated it was Horcoff, but based upon the talking heads on the fan960--it was Belanger

Would rather have Belanger as a 4th line C than Smyth.

Did I miss something? What's wrong with having him as a 4th line C?

He wasn't brought in to provide offence. He was brought in to win face-offs and he's done that. It just sucks when he gets stuck on the ice when something other than a faceoff is actually happen. That sucks really bad.

pretty much this... plus everybody else has nailed it as well.... he was universally thought of as a good signing at the time, but his offence has simply disappeared... he was the model of consistency before coming to edmonton, almost always scoring roughly 30 points/season.... he is still a large upgrade over smyth as the 4th line C as well

speaking of smyth, if we ever get healthy, i sure wouldn't mind having him sit for every 2nd game from here on out

I couldn't disagree with this statement more. Smytty at least wins some puck battles and can grind it out on that 4th line. I really like him as our center on that line.

I for one, really hope that Belanger has played his last game as an Oiler. He brings absolutely nothing to the table and his body language makes it look like he'd rather be anywhere else but here. My body language when I watch him is the same.

Would anyone (outside of Oiler fans) consider a Belanger + for either Beagle, Boy Gordon, Goc or Smithson?
