I don't understand all the hand wringing over this tournament taking place during CHL playoffs. The 95 pool for Canada is soooo deep. The roster posted a page back looks like the best team on paper.

USA still the favorites because they bring over a team instead of a collection of players, but still. Canada has as good of a chance as any other tournament.

Bowey led the team in Time on Ice, great to see him in that role.

This team from all I have read is flying below the radar which is not all that bad.
If this team can put team first and draft picks second, we should go 3-0 and face the swedes for group first place.
A win over the swedes would be a huge step for a medal . Time for Connor mcdavid to play more than 13 minutes a game.no one else is stepping up .

Ya and Reinhart has to start burying some chances 2 pts in 2 games against 2 of the weaker teams in the group is just not good enough and doesn't justify him getting the bulk of the TOI among the forwards, so either he starts leading or get out of the way and let the 16 year old do it.

You can see all that from box scores?

He is a goal scorer...that's his role on the team. He has to get results.

Reinhart is much more than a goal scorer.

I just don't feel it's fair to judge anyone play on the ice without having seen it.

Quiet a lot of Russian hockey fans actually follow it, most likely because it's in Sochi. But it is on a fairly big channel and I was surprised to hear that my friends in Moscow (who are casual fans at best) actually went to a bar to watch the last game vs Finland.

But I agree, in Canada it's only some experts who specialize in Europe scouting or some junie hockey fans. I can't say that it's any better for IH, since it's not televised at all.

very impressive offensive numbers today. A line up shake up seems to be working with contributions from all four lines. That speaks well for tomorrows game against Sweden.
The real hockey begins with the swedes. All teams in the other division are tough. No easy games in the quarters.
Penalty minutes are coming down too.Good trends.

Ya, I see the ticker.. I can give the boys some credit for scoring, the Swiss are normally prepared for games against Canada at any level...I haven't watched any of this game, but from reports a lot of that is due to exceptionally weak Swiss goaltending... but the boys are scoring, even Reinhart, so he earns a reprieve today.

10-1 win vs Suisse.

The thing that sticks out to me, just like it did when they named the team is Hunter Garlent played just over 5 minutes.

Why did this kid even make the team?

i think he was brought as a role player. One would think that Kujawinski and Duclair would be obvious choices for second and third line duty, but their number wasn't called. Hard to get ice time as the 13th forward. Ask Nathan Mackinnon.

Not much place for a role, when you only get shifts in the 3rd period of a game you're winning 10-1.

I'm just happy the team scored some goals today. A nice confidence boost ahead of a very tough matchup with Sweden.

Someone has to be the 13th forward.....still a great accomplishment to play for your country!! Now its his job to work hard and move up the line-up if he can!

Not surprised at all about the Macdavid-Bennett combo having chemistry, as jfb392 noted above, these two guys have played together forever. I am surprised that they weren't insulated with a bigger winger (they may very well be, when they face stiffer competition). 3 extremely smart players playing together usually makes for quick chemistry.

I'm more surprised at the Russians beating the USA, rather than vice versa.

Definitely a good start to the tournament for Canada.
Canadians don't always own the faceoff circle( very poor against the swedes). I like the good distribution of scoring thru the lines and balanced defence. Nice to see Klimchuk, Nastasiuk come alive.
I am expecting way more from Gauthier. The defence has played well.

In general Canadians are better on the draw at this age that their peers.

Nice little bank to himself by MacDavid, damn you TSN for having the score right on your front page, I was going to try and work all day without finding out the score. OH well, good result, nice highlights, and I'll still watch later.

Wow McDavid, leading the tourney in scoring easily.

Tavares had 5 points here at the same age. Is it fair to say now that McDavid is easily the best player at his age to come along since Sid??
