His return increases the likelihood of a trade - Hainsey or Clitsome - both lefties and both UFA.

Meech

Yikes. Someone is getting waived or traded. Maybe leading to a Hainsey deal?

I think it means Meech returns to AHL. Noel + Chevy likes 8D and Chevy will still having an option from the farm incase of bad scenarios.

LHD:
Enstrom
Hainsey (has played off hand many times)
Stuart
Kulda
Clitsome (has played off hand many times)

RHD:
Byfuglien
Bogosian
Postma

Meech can go down as he cleared waivers previously. View the roster thread for specifics.

Aside from that absolutely horrid giveaway vs. the Leafs, I think Clitsome has stepped up admirably. He's strong on the puck and seems much more confident out there.

Pretty excited as I had written him off. I hope the KHL experience has a positive effect on his game.

He cleared waivers in January.... He'd have to clear again to be assigned to st. Johns.

This is great news! I see a deal happening in the future leaving D pairings like this...

Enstrom-Buff
Hainsey-Bogo
Kulda-Postma

Leaving Stuart/Clitsome in the press box. I could see one of these two getting traded in some kind of package for an upgrade elsewhere. If its Clitsome that's traded I expect that Stuart and Kulda will split time...if its Stu that gets traded, I see Clitsome being the unquestioned #7.

This is awesome news. I've been a big fan of Kulda since he was drafted. I think he can be a solid #4. Play him with Bogosian and watch a great young D pairing develop. They were great together in Peterborough, and they should be able to re-kindle their chemistry.

Hmmmm. Here's me spitballing. They sign Kulda to see what he can do. He shows he can play reliable top 4 minutes, therefore making trading Hainsey easier to swallow. The Jets parlay Hainsey + into the top 9 winger they want.

Personally? I don't let Hainsey go if we are going to make the playoffs. I've seen numerous teams rip through their defensive depth pretty quickly after the deadline. However, I could see something like this playing out.

They are basically saying to Kulda "show us you belong here"

Good points.

I too would be pretty worried if we did trade Hainsey. Kulda is far far from proven even if he does look good in the next 2 weeks. With the injuries out defence gets hit with, I'd be crossing my fingers they could stay healthy - but I wouldn't count on it.

And as I touched on the other day, even if we aren't a contender, we are a team that wants to make the playoffs, gain that experience, go as far as we can, etc. Teams doing so generally do not trade top 4 defenceman. It would have been like Ottawa trading Kuba last trade deadline. Sure the assets can be nice, but, you're destined or running for the playoffs, why trade someone who helped carry such a bulk of the load to get you there. I don't agree with it. Love a good collection of draft picks, but they become overrated. Give me the experience, an extra draft pick or two doesn't compare for a team looking to establish a winning culture.

The thing that surprises me is the salary. Sure it's prorated, but he's still going to be earning bigger cheques than most of the Jets.

He only got $550,000 (prorated), the minimum is $525,000. Not sure I understand?

The quoted tweet sequence is misleading:

I read it as the salary was 5 m and prorated it was 550,000 total dollars. That's why I thought it was odd.

EDIT: D'oh!!! aaannd I just realized that 5m is 5 minutes. Dammit! Wish I didn't use Twitter ALL DAY then I would have an excuse

I read that as if he on the team for the remainder of the season he will get paid roughly 1/4 of $550,000 or about $137500 .........minus escrow payments...... I think Kane Ladd Buff and jokinen get more than that about every 3 games

He'll remain an RFA after his one year deal.

Kulda will be a restricted free agent again at the end of this 1-year deal, meaning the #NHLJets retain his rights with a qualifying offer
With all the UFA lefties, I'm willing to bet that the Jets are giving him the rest of the year to see how good he is, and his new contract for next year will reflect that. I think he'll remain in the Jets plans after this year.
