Its that time of the year again Viking Fans [2013 NFL Draft]

NOTE: I think this warrants a new thread, it a 3 day event and we can discuss all the picks or lack of here. If MODS disagree I will feel great shame

That time when we are disappointed. In this years draft we have two picks 23rd and 25th and in theory we should get two starters in those spots.

Now to give credit where its due, the Vikes have had some solid picks the last few years and I'm hopeful that this is another one of those years.

Now i'll post some "mocks"

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/mock-draft

this one has 8 mocks in it, at the top you'll see a scroll button

http://walterfootball.com/draft2013_1.php

http://www.nfl.com/draft/2013/mock-drafts

I've seen a lot of back and forth on who Vikings should take in the first round. For a while Keenan Allen (WR) was a shoe in for 23rd, however he seems to have dropped out of 1st round in most mocks. Most people have us taking a receiver.

I think we should use our two spots to address the defensive side of the ball. We need secondary help and we need it bad (Stafford,Cutler,Rodgers are all lethal on the pass) Get a CB like DJ Hajden or Desmond Trufont and a LB/DE other then T'eo who most people have gone to now as a shoe in to be a viking. (nothing against T'eo personally just don't think he's good enough for a 1st rounder)

I will say this one thing tho as a mid round wild card pick I hope we pick Tyrann Matheau

Yes some problems but the dope smoking but from all account i've seen he's cleaned up his act. high risk for sure but HUGE reward.

This year I'm a fan of the Vikings for the first time in...well, ever.

I was raised a Colts fan but have converted over the summer. Do me well, Vikings.

Matheiu in the first would be a travesty. In the 5th he'd be nice though.
In reality, the Vikes will probably take Justin Hunter or Keenan Allen.

Matheiu in the 1st would be a reach, 5th there is no way he's there. I'm thinking late 2nd mid 3rd would be great if we could land him there, he's a gamer. At worst he'll be a great punt return guy but you watch his eyes for the ball he makes plays like no one else in his position.

One idea going around now is that we trade our 23rd to Buffalo (no idea what the return would have to be, something like maybe their 2nd and maybe 4th/5th in which case we could take Mathew early 3rd/late 2nd)

I know a lot of people are down on him but had he not been kicked off there is a good chance he'd be a top 5 pick.

Gut feeling on tonight's draft...take a MLB or CB and trade down into the second with the other.

Ah.

Like I said in the other thread, I think they take a MLB or CB with one of the picks and trade into the early second with the other, maybe pick up a late 3rd or early 4th?

Me likey Justin Hunter. Good speed, size (needs bulk though) and production. Issues with injuries and drops. Has potential to be the best WR out of this class. Poor mans A.J. Green I guess.

Justin Hunter is very intriguing, he's a great route runner but as you said suffers from occasional drops which i think is fixable.

Could be a great 25 pick if he's there.

Want NO part of Mathieu at any stage. Poor prospect to begin with, even worse character.

Dream first round would be coming away with 2 of the 3 defensive players from Florida State (Rhodes + Werner, or Carradine).

Rhodes probably will be gone, the other two might be there.

Tho do we want to spend two picks on the defensive line?

Disagree with you on Mathieu, sure he made mistakes but he is a phenomenal talent, he's dynamic and seems to be turning his character issues around. Tho he might be gone in the 2nd round.

The part of me that is filled with common sense says you probably should have stayed a Colts fan, because the Vikings will uh, do you pretty well in a pretty bad way if you wait around long enough.

My opinions for Vikes needs and potential picks. Team needs in somewhat order top to bottom.
WR: Hunter, Woods, Allen
DT: Sly Williams, Kawann Short, Sheldon Richardson (if he falls, or trade up)
LB: Brown, Minter, Te'o
CB: Hayden, Wreh-Wilson

Damn I cannot wait. I'm Hoping for Arthur Brown Justin Hunter combo from the first day, then a DT like Short or Jesse Williams in the 2nd

Aj Mansour Releases His 2013 Mock Draft

Te'o at 23 and Werner at 25.

http://www.kfan.com/pages/draftguide...ticle=11225305

I thought people were still saying that Te'o didn't have what it takes to be a three down linebacker in the NFL, and is more of a nickel guy, this has changed?

As far as i know it has not. If the vikings take him they will regret it, specially if one of Ogletree,Minter,Brown are left on the board.

God I don't want T'eo he's overrated as hell and has serious deficiencies with limited upside

I will state right now that T'eo is my biggest worry, for some reason people love to have us get him, I just don't see a player that is worth of a 1st round pick. We NEED secondary help and need it bad. D.J. Hayden make more sense then T'eo and is a better prospect.

as i've said Arthur Brown and Kevin Minter would both be better then T'eo.

I hope the Vikings don't pick Tyrann Mathieu too high as well. For those who are interested, ESPN the Magazine had an outstanding feature on him.

I think Rhodes has played his way into being picked far before where the Vikings select, but there's several higher profile guys who expect him to slip towards the Vikings range.

As far as the two defensive linemen, DE's, I was more so talking about Rhodes + one of those two. Just didn't convey it on my phone while typing.

As far as Mathieu, I've never viewed him to have the skill set to succeed in the NFL. A year completely out of football of any type pushes him down towards the 5th round+ range. Character makes him a complete non-factor for me. He chose this route at the collegiate level. Have no faith in him to get into line living the lifestyle of a professional athlete.

Don't understand the interest in Hunter either. Toolsy athlete with zero feel for the position. Not to mention injury and hands concerns which has all lead to inconsistency issues. Looks like one of the more probable busts at the WR position in my opinion.

2) Moving for Manti: The draft saga has been a wild one for Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o, with his real/imaginary personal life pulled apart in ways we've never seen. He was a sure-first first-rounder before the Fighting Irish got pummeled by Alabama in the national title game. And he was a clean, no-controversy prospect until we all learned what catfishing was. Now? Based on what I'm hearing, he'll end up where a lot of experts thought he'd go in the beginning -- in the middle of the first round. Word is Te'o is coveted by two NFC North foes: the Chicago Bears (holding the No. 20 pick) and Minnesota Vikings (Nos. 23 and 25). We've heard Minnesota wants to move up for a week or so. Why? My guess is for Te'o. If they want him, they likely will have to jump Chicago, as the Bears are said to be big fans of the local linebacker. From my view, I won't be surprised if the Vikings leapfrog Chicago by trading with either the Dallas Cowboys (No. 18) or New York Giants (19), both of whom could stand to move back and collect picks. That would put Te'o in the top 20, capping a rise, fall and then rise again for the ages.

Man this would be a COLOSSAL mistake if it happen

If we trade up for him, I smell a Vikings Colton Gillies

Can't see the Vikings taking a LB in the first, let alone trading up for one, after listening to PA today.

I do like Te'o's game a tad, but of course the timings and girlfriend saga has turned me off a bit. Wouldn't completely be disappointed if he was one of the picks, but it wouldn't excite me either.
