They will be, look at the graphic I posted, longe-range models show it will stay unseasonably COLD until at least mid-April.

I'll be at Gore/Whiteface this weekend, then Jay Peak (and maybe Quebec) in early April.

Hell, Jay Peak just got almost THREE FEET of snow this week alone, and Whiteface opened The Slides today. If places decide to stay open, we could be skiing in late April for sure.

I really need to learn how to ski. I can't imagine it being that hard if I'm a reasonable ice skater?

Being an good ice skater absolutely makes skiing easier, IMO. I remember going skiing for the first time in quite a while a few years ago and I found myself going down moderate slopes in no time. I've always wanted to try ski blades (shorter than skis), which I can only imagine to be more similar to skating given the shorter length.

super easy

Almost identical balance points and stopping is the same as a hard hockey stop. Just don't try to crossover

Pizza stance will be your friend. Try snowboarding though. Cool thing to do.

Haven't snowboarded since high school. Used to be good.

Wow, I'm jealous, haha. I'm actually floating around the idea of heading up to Tuckerman's in late May right after school is over if there is still good snow.

I would imagine the trees at Gore will be skiing really well, have fun.

I can't snowboard. Same reason I can't skateboard. When I turn sideways, my brain flips out and I can't get the angles right. It's actually an eye condition, but that's a whole different topic.

I figured the edging is the same, minus the cross over like RG mentioned, lol

This. It's really easy if you're good on skates.

Whelp, I'll be the one dissenting voice. I've skied virtually my entire life, and see almost no comparables to downhill skiing and ice skating, with the exception of the "hockey stop", which as already mentioned really is the same.

Now Cross Country skiing or the skills you need on downhill skis while maneuvering the flats that snowboarders hate? Yes, there again, ice skating will come in handy. But in terms of actual downhill skiing? There's not much similarity.

*I can post this in TAN, because it's not about hockey, it's about how insane our board is

Don't let him pooh pooh your dreams CB, there's plenty in common.

- chicks dig a guy that can do it
- there's plenty of beer to be drank following it with stories of glory
- it requires really expensive and hard to find performance attire
- injuries sustained make for great stories back at work with plenty of embellishment
- one good session will keep you coming back for another year

As for the skills, well stopping is the most important so you've already got that nearly mastered without even trying. How can you NOT go try it now?
