"We're pleased to bring Derek home to Ottawa. He is a proven 30 goal scorer and we are going to try him out on Jason's (Spezza) line on the left wing. Derek should help improve our special teams as well."
I confim

Unable to sign him I was happy to acquire an asset for his UFA rights

5th round picks have been good to Hawks in recent years (Kruger + Shaw)

Predictions on how many teams are left once FA starts? I'm going with 6 or 7.

The battle between game and realism is a tough one. But I don't think we've ever had this many big FAs re-sign. Not to mock CR, I trust him more than anyone for that job, but this is going to die so fast.

Agreed on both counts. The ability to make the big FA play keeps the game afloat, but CR is as good as there is.

And Nuckles... well... he did his job admirably

Just don't want anyone complaining when I give out 3 max-cap hit contracts.

The Boston Bruins are happy to have lock up Tuukka Rask to a 5 year deal worth 25 million dollars per year.

Ehh, I had the chance to be a mod last year and turned it down.
Wasn't offered enough money.

At the same time, teams could be more active with trades to complete their roster. But you're right, the battle between game and realism is a tough one.

A crazy idea for next game which probably wouldn't work out well:
Let no UFAs re-sign. None of them, not even the 4th liners.

It's not realistic, but it would prevent too many big names from re-signing.

Looking for a veteran top 9 RW, ideally someone who is decent at faceoffs as well.

When is FA starting? Because the longer it takes, the more we're going to loose GMs... (and interest)

I'm kinda new around here and I've said it before, but to me the reason the games die out pretty quickly after the playoffs is that draft and free agency are kinda pointless as it leads to nothing else.

Maybe it could be a good idea to vote for a GM of the game award for the most improved team after the whole game (including off-season). This would give motivation to go on and finish the game on the right foot and would reward GMs that have really worked hard on their team.

Anyways, just my $0.02.

Looking to package Coburn+Halak+ for an upgrade on Coburn.

If nothing comes of that, Halak will go for the best offer I receive.
