Did I overpay ,yes. However, I believe these two pieces were necessary for my roster.

Did I overpay ,yes. However, I believe these two pieces were necessary for my roster.
1. You just guaranteed you won't be able to sign Corey Perry
2. You acquired two aging players who are far from stars, and often injured, Vinny hasn't played a full season since 09-10.
3. You traded your 2 great C prospects who would slide into that spot when you have to buy out Vincent Lecavalier in 3 years.
4. You traded 2 NHL ready defensemen and a college standout, only to follow it up by acquiring a 35+ defenseman and moving two of your top wing prospects, dwindling the likelihood of someone replacing Perry this off-season.
5. A first, and high second in a deep draft. So you can't even replace the talent you just shipped out.

So is that a real trade or not? I don't even know what is true or not.

EDM doesn't have a 2013 3rd. It belongs to Dallas. Deal needs to be re-worked. Vetoed as is.

COMPLETE TRIO OF TRANSACTIONS

First off, we'd like to recognize Shawn Horcoff, Ales Hemsky, Ryan Whitney, and Anton Lander for their efforts during their tenure as Oilers. Our struggles have been well chronicled and this isn't the time to pick at new wounds. We thank them for their time spent here and wish them all the best.

These moves were made in an effort to cultivate a bigger, grittier, tougher to play against team. We wanted to focus on size, physicality, and two-way play down the middle, and we feel we've certainly done that with the additions of behemoth Brian Boyle and Nate Thompson.

Chris Kreider brings a rare combination of excellent skating and size he's willing to engage with. We didn't feel we had that aspect in our Top-6, certainly not the size aspect, and we're thrilled that he was available and excited to see how he continues to develop. Zac Dalpe is another player knock at the door. He's a quick skater with decent size, good instincts and an even better release. We're going to want to see them in Edmonton, but for now we feel their time will be best spent soaking up minutes in the AHL.

The Oilers also welcome back Eric Brewer for his second tour of duty with the Oilers. Good teams are always looking to bolster their blueline with Top-4 defensemen and Brewer is a known quantity around the league. Perhaps more importantly, he brings a strong leadership quality to a team that is in need in that area.

1. wasn't going to be able to resign Perry most likely anyway.
2.Vinny imo is a star palyer.

2006-07 82 games 108 points
2007-08 81 games 92 points
2008-09 77 games 67 points
2009-10 82 games 70 points
2010-11 65 games 54 points
2011-12 64 games 49 points
2012-13 25 games 20 points

Even if has had some injuries the last two seasons, he still is able to rake in quite a few points and who is to say he won't stay healthy this year. I mean the reason he missed 18 games last season was because of a broken hand its not like any other player is more susceptible to breaking their hand in a contact sport.

3. Those Center prospects won't be able to help get us into the playoffs this year. Not planing on buying Vinny out.

4. That 35+ defenseman is quite a good veteran player that is still putting up points on the score board.
2012-13 23 games 1 goal 11 assists 12 points

Hampus Lindholm Pro 7.5 C imo is not NHL ready. He needs more time to increase his skills and grow. Sami Vatanen Pro 7.5 C is able to play in the NHL ,but for my purposes this season Gonchar will serve me better. Could Vatanen be the better player down the road, yes. However, my goal is to make it deep in the playoffs. Andy Welinski isn't ready to help me this season either.

Moved the two wing prospects to acquire Vinny and Malone. It's not like you're going to get quality players for free.

Perry may not chose to sign with the Ducks before the off season. With this in mind I'd rather make a play off push now then wait next year with possibly no Perry.

5. No, but that's the price you pay to acquire good players. Plus I'm not rebuilding so picks won't help me reach my goal.
