But clearly you've never been to one of the Ducks Skills Showdowns. Fowler wins.

And nice try.

Showdowns are a controlled environment. Fowler can't replicate it in a game. Hes a great skater but cannot match Cogliano in speed in an NHL game.

Fowler doesn't have this speed:

Haha. He absolutely does. And the Skills Showdowns are on the ice. They race around it. Fowler wins. Not sure what you're trying to prove.

Haven't seen him this season but Chimera always seemed to fly by everyone.

And to echo one poster Calvert seems super speedy.

Read the edit, thanks. In an NHL game, Cogliano is faster. Etem is also faster. Palmieri probably also. Fowler maybe 4th fastest on the team in an ACTUAL GAME.

Do you bring a radar gun? At least I have proof Fowler is fastest.

Soooo you're saying it's not straight line speed?

Zolniercyzk has some wheels for sure. I be interested in Flyers goal line to goal line races (as I'm sure most fans would be of their teams). Read, Coburn, Zolniercyzk, Voracek, Simmonds, Rinaldo and Giroux can all fly.

Eric Wellwood would scorch them all if he was up in the NHL, but he's not, so can't be included in this topic . Out of that group, I'd put Coburn above the rest. Huge stride, and an absolute freak athletically.

edit: TECHNICALLY Zolniercyzk is in the AHL right now too. So he's out of contention

Fowler doesn't have this speed:
Actually, he can replicate it in games, and he has many times. When you see him blowing past Anaheim's forwards on the rush, that's exactly what he's doing.

4 straight lines. 2 long and 2 short lines.

Actually, they're all short for Fowler.

Probably this. I would say Helm also is up there for top end speed.
Duchene is the quickest player though, in that he is shifty and his quick feet translate into the most scoring opportunity.

Mason Raymond is without a shadow of a doubt the fastest hockey player in the league. Once he gets going there isn't a wind and a prayer that can stop him.
That's true! Look at Masey burn it up!!

Man I love this team!

The lack of Erik Karlsson in this thread baffles me...
I'm guessing the 'lack of' is sarcasm seeing as he's been mentioned 7 billion times.

fastest player is obviously hall gill. He moves like a glacier

Not the greatest skater, but really, really fast in a straight line. I think the answer here might be Erik Cole.

Well sort of... Dale Weise won the Canucks fastest skater this year. There is a differnce between in game and around the rink. Not saying anthing on the Fowler and Cogs situation as I don't see them everyday...

Because no one who watches Anaheim regularly would ever say they are faster than he is. Just because they are forwards and they display their speed more doesn't make them faster. Cogliano might show his speed more, but he is absolutely not Anaheim's fastest skater, and this "during the game" argument is just a crude and arbitrary way of trying to claim a player is faster without actually knowing.

It's not like if you put the puck in front of Fowler he's going to magically lose speed. He can push the puck out in front of him, just like Cogs. Not to mention he is so, soooo much better at handling the puck with speed than Cogliano. Cogs shows his speed more because he's a forward, and that's part of his game. That's all.

I agree it's not the deciding factor, and it doesn't need to be. Watching them play regularly makes it apparent. You just see it more with Cogliano. As a defenseman, you'll only really see Fowler's top gear speed when he's joining the rush, or trying to get back. I've seen Cogliano hard on the back check trying to chase down a player, and I've seen Fowler come from behind and beat him to them.

I regularly watch Anaheim and would say all 3 are faster. That's not a diss to Fowler, more like a complement to Cogs, Etem and Palmieri. Fowler is still really fast.

It has nothing to do with offense or defense. There was a time Fowler almost scored on a breakaway in Overtime, so I know he is very fast.

I agree about Fowler being a better skater and puckhandler, but I would give Cogs a slight edge in speed. He's like the roadrunner.
