Hansen get's a break-away or three pretty much every game. Might score 1 for 20, but at least he get's the opportunities. heh.

When Raymond Kesler Grabner were together, it was like money in the PP bank. They drew so many penalties with their speed.

Grabner is similar with the breakaways these days. All he has to do is bank the puck off the boards passed the defenseman and hes gone.

I do wonder where Marleau places now. He was literally named in the top 3 a few years back and hasn't lost a step.

It has nothing to do with offense or defense. There was a time Fowler almost scored on a breakaway in Overtime, so I know he is very fast.

I agree about Fowler being a better skater and puckhandler, but I would give Cogs a slight edge in speed. He's like the roadrunner.
Whatever you say is deemed invalid. Being on a breakaway makes a player fast in your eyes. Lol

It should be telling that the majority of Anaheim fans here will say Fowler.

I am assuming the reason Karlsson isn't universally top 3 is because he's injured right?

Whoever the fastest player on the Ducks is, it's only because Parros is gone:

Zolniercyzk has some wheels for sure. I be interested in Flyers goal line to goal line races (as I'm sure most fans would be of their teams). Read, Coburn, Zolniercyzk, Voracek, Simmonds, Rinaldo and Giroux can all fly.

Eric Wellwood would scorch them all if he was up in the NHL, but he's not, so can't be included in this topic . Out of that group, I'd put Coburn above the rest. Huge stride, and an absolute freak athletically.

edit: TECHNICALLY Zolniercyzk is in the AHL right now too. So he's out of contention
Wow I forgot about Wellwood. I think he may have an edge on Z, definitely not scorch him.

That is such a weird comparison to choose, though surprisingly Byfuglien is far from slow once he gets going (should clarify that I am not suggesting he is faster).

As a Flyer fan reading the comments of other Flyer fans, Harry Z and Eric Wellwood don't really belong on this list. They're both very, very fast, but neither is on the same level as Hagelin or Grabner.

Whats crazy to me about Grabner is watching him go from holding the puck at a stand still and deciding he's still going to try to skate around a defenseman who has already turned around and has ten feet and a couple steps speed on him . . . and doing it . . . easily. It's almost unfair except he's got Laraque hands to go with those Bure wheels.

I've seen Karlsson catch up to fast players from offensive blue-line, while getting caught flat footed.

He's fast as heck.

Duchene's speed this year is just phenomenal.Nearly everytime he moves through the neutral zone the defenders are scrambling to keep him from getting by him, usually having to give up back skating to turn and try and catch up. He's way faster than he has been so far in his career and it's beautiful to watch.

Fastest player Colorado has ever had for sure.

That was Chimera for years. Fast as hell, bad hands...or maybe its just harder to handle the puck at such speeds.

I'm always surprised the NHL doesn't have a combine that does speed test much like the NFL does the 40 yard dash. I'd like to know the goal line to center line, or goal line to goal line, of every new player, that would be a fun stat to track.

The thing with Gaborik is, he literally hits top speed in less than half the time/stride of anyone else. But, I don't think his top speed is as fast as many others in the league.

Hagelin is only behind Grabner.

Wow pretty glaring lack of Crosby. I know many main board junkies hate him but he can easily keep up with anyone in the league aside from Grabner and MAYBE a couple others. He skates faster than most guys when he has the puck for cryin' out loud.
