Assuming MacKinnon, Drouin, Wilson, Laughton are in the NHL next year

Shinkaruk - Monahan - Mantha
Leipsic - McDavid - Klimchuk
Hudon - Horvat - Domi
Gaunce - Lazar - Rychel

Others - Petan, Gauthier, Baillie, S. Reinhart

Pouliot - Dumba
Reinhart - Pulock
Nurse - Koekkoek
Morrissey

Others - J. Subban, Severson, Ekblad, Theodore

Jarry
Fucale
Patterson

Others - Derosiers

On Severson, I don't like your assessment Jason.

He is a shutdown defensman but he also gets the first unit PP time.

It's also not like kelowna can't score or really is a defense first team.

They are quite offensive and I imagine their a top 5 scoring team in the WHL.

Severson and Dumba have the same struggles. Decision making.

My predictions are based on speed because once again it's on a big ice and watching the Americans this year there speed was the difference IMO

Shinkaruk - Monahan - Mantha
Athanasiou - McDavid- Reinhart
Leipsic- Gaunce - Hudon (A)
Klimchuk- Horvat. - Wilson
Domi

Reinhart (C) - Dumba (A)
Rielly (A) - Ekblad
Pouillet. - Nurse
Severson

Patterson
Fucale
Desrosiers

You base it off speed and take Gaunce over Lazar? There's also no way they play AA over Domi, Domi is almost as fast and is a much better player

Needs more Mike Matheson. Incredible season at BC, and people are talking about that he is pretty close to being ready for the NHL already. Should be a lock for this team.

Gaunce is there to play the checking role but also he's one of the best at winning faceoffs and can play any role asked. And if you actually watched AA in the playoffs you'd agree he is worthy of top 6. But your right Domi is quite the talent and who knows might be first line next year with all his skill like he showed last night!

I did watch the playoffs, and while AA is talented, Domi is a much better player in just about every facet of the game. I agree that Gaunce is a good two-way player, but he is pretty slow, and Lazar or Gauthier could play a similar role but they are faster

Gaunce can also play wing though. I think he's a good fit for 13th forward or the 4th line. Having that sort of utility in a player who can play any forward position or role would be very useful.

So, what does everyone think about Slater Koekkoek's chances?

I'd think pretty low at this point. He has not had much time the past two years to prove his play. And my viewings have seen him as a decent dman, but nothing special. He unfortunately has lost a lot of development time, so he's probably a year behind where he should be at this juncture.

Mantha - Monahan - Shinkaruk
Domi - Reinhart - Rychel
Hudon - Lazar - Leipsic
Horvat - Dauphin - Wilson

Gauthier and Petan could make some noise here.

Dumba - Reinhart
Ekblad - Pouliot
Finn - Nurse

Fucale
Jarry

Doubt McDavid makes the team. HC is too entrenched in their 19yo philosophy to have a 16 year old make it.

You bet there Caper.
If he works hard this off season and has a solid start, he is going to make it.
Right now the injury has set him back from national recognition.

McDavid will be the exception. He was just at the U-18's as a double underager and won every award possible plus the Gold Medal. He'd be the most talented player on the WJC team. He's too good to be left off.

Expect that more people will be on and watching these games as compared to the games in UFA. Which players do you think are dark horses to make it?

probably will be invited, but as always it is very hard to make the team as a draft eligible

I'd say there would be a better chance if he had a standout U18, but unless he has a season where he is one of the premier defensemen in the CHL I can't see him getting much of a shot. If he's not in the NHL in 2015 I'd say he's pretty much a lock for that Team Canada though

I think the team will go with more experience and someone a little older in nets then Fucale. How about Chris Driedger?

Matt Murray of the Soo Greyhounds should be in contention,

I also would like for Petan to be squeezed in there, the chemistry and playmaking ability of Leipsic and Petan is great especially on larger ice, all they need is a shooter for them like rattie was in the WHL. Would be tough to find room for Petan but I guess we will have to see how the first couple months of the season go

Murray is a good option. I don't think Canada takes two goalies who were just drafted unless they are for sure the options which at this point is arguable. I think they take 1 or 2 2012 draftees.
