EDM dmen

EDM has three dmen that will be UFAs come this summer. If they can not resign them what would they be worth at the trade deadline. It has even been stated on the local sports station that if these players can not be resigned that they could be traded.
Smid- Big guy that is your typical stay at home dman. He will sacrifice his body and stick up for his teammates. I do not want to trade him but if we can't sign him we are not going to let him go for nothing.

Fistric- We picked him up for a 3rd round pick which I thought was a steal. He hits, is big, blocks shots and will drop the gloves. At the deadline his value will be at its highest as every team needs a player like him.

Whitney- Had a bad year but the last three games it just seems that it clicked in for him. He has 3 goals now and 7 points. Had a very nice stretch pass to Gagner against the Hawks. He is now no longer garbage to throw away. Every team can use a puck moving dman for the playoff run.

What would your team give for one of these guys. These are the type of dmen that can play on any team and contribute.

I think Smid and Fistric are more valuable to the Oilers than about 80% of the teams in the league.

If Smid is made available, the Blues will pursue him.

I do agree that I would rather keep Smid and Fistric but if they are not resigned they will get traded I would think. I am sure they both get a good return.

Of the three D-men heading into UFA oilers should signed Smid of them and maybe fistric. Smid is the type of D-man they need

Not sure if we'd include Cole if Smid is just rental, but maybe Cole and a conditional pick if we feel confident we can retain Smid.

Blues and Flames fans have agreed on 2 of Cole/Rattie/1st for Gio, so a little less than that since Smid has more risk being an UFA.

What kind of prospects would you want?

If Oilers for whatever reason doesn't resign Smid I will be devastated. Love that guy both on and off the ice!

Trading Smid would be downright idiotic.

Not really. They are both UFA's so their value won't be as high as you think. Smid holds more value to the Oilers than he would to any other team, it would be stupid beyond belief to deal him and with him being a pending UFA, i don't see a team giving up more than a draft pick/good prospect for him. Smid has his faults but he's tough as nails, is willing to stick up for his teammates and actually likes it in Edmonton, not the type of guy the Oilers should be selling off.
It's not worth it for the Oilers to trade either. They just need to re-sign them (especially Smid) and worry about trading them later if need be.

Saw a improvement in Whitney against the Hawks, and if anything his value is going up each game. You just have to look at what the Leafs got for Tomas Kaberle, and his play wasn't much better then Whitney's when he was traded. Never know what some teams will do to get a edge.

Fistric will be traded, I don't believe the Oilers can afford to resign him. Most likely he'll be wanting 3yr contract and that would hurt the development of Klefbom, Musil, and Marincin. You have Peckham and his play hasn't been that bad. Fistric could bring in a healthy return or combined in a package for something better.

Smid is resign, no question, end of debate.

Not re-signing Smid would be Tambo's last nail in the coffin. I wouldn't be surprised if Laddy even took a hometown discount.

If Fistric's demands are reasonable, he should be re-signed as well.

Whitney is definately available and playing much better I might add.

I don't think that's enough for Oilers. Smid is very valuable.

Not sold on McIlrath, and it wouldn't be enough for Smid.

I want the Oilers to resign Smid and Fistric but if for some reason they don't they have to trade them instead of losing them for nothing. They are both the type of dmen that teams need when making a run to the cup. We only got Fistric for a 3rd but I would think he is worth at least a 2nd at the deadline. Smid I am not sure a 1st for sure but if it is a late 1st then a prospect has to be coming back.

If the Oilers can get McIirath then it would be completed in a NY minute. If Smid truely loves Edmonton then he'll re-sign in the summer.

No it wouldn't. McIlrath isn't as valuable as he was on draft day. Looks like a Matt Carkner rather than a Matt Greene or Adam Foote.

Take Musil over McIirath, as would the Oilers, and with Klefbom coming up the trade wouldn't make sence.

Fistric makes 1.5/yr. That's reasonable.

Back to Smid. If he goes to St. Louis, I want Jaskin + pick coming back.
