So there's no fooling around, if the Habs have the chance to get the cup, then jump on it.

Big deals can be done without damaging the furur. Just look at Cole for Ryder, it was a pretty big deal and MB did not sacrifice young players. Deals can be done to make your team better. We have a lot of players with some worth than can be traded.
The Caps are struggling because they built a team to play a certain style and had success, then they pulled a 180 and now want to play another way but half their team is built to play run and gun.

Regehr has an expiring contract so it's very minimal risk. In Buffalo he is getting #5 minutes at 18:50 so he can't be doing THAT bad. He is playing ahead of Sultzer and Pardy, Sultzer is pretty decent. Last year he had 172 hits and 112 BS in 76 games. This year he has 44 hits and 37 BS in 37 games.

He's probably only 80% of his prime of 4-5 years ago, but still good enough to help a team like the Habs playing a #5-6 role and PK duty.

Teams may want Prust all they want, but would the Habs trade him?

With the actual roster, the Habs probably lose in the second or third round of the playoffs. With another big top 9 forward and a physical and reliable top 6 dman, the Habs are a real Stanley Cup contender and have 50 % of chance to be in the Stanley Cup final.
There is no such thing as a 50% chance to be in the SC final. That would imply an 80% chance to get past each round. The Habs won't get such odds especially against Pittsburgh and Boston, even if we do add to the team.

We'd have to give away picks and/or prospects for that, which is bad for the future.

What does everyone think of the idea of bringing Mike Cammalleri back to Montreal?

Why?

Calgary is struggling and should start to make some moves for the future. Cammalleri is someone that should become available. He's having a pretty good year so far (22 games, 9 goals, 9 assists, 18 points, -8, 10 powerplay points, 10 PIM). His contract doesn't expire after this year, so he won't be a "rental" either. He has proven to step up his game in the playoffs (2010 playoffs, he scored 13 goals in 19 games for us). I think having someone who can score, proven to step up his game in the playoffs, and is familiar with the city and the fans would be helpful down the stretch and in the playoffs. Plus, with Markov back, he can feed Cammalleri for those blasts from the top of the circle again.

When Bourque, Prust, and Diaz come back, we could potentially be looking at a team like this heading into the playoffs:

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Gallagher
Bourque - Plekanec - Gionta
Cammalleri - Galchenyuk - Ryder
Prust - Eller - Moen
Armstrong

Subban - Gorges
Markov - Emelin
Diaz - Bouillon
Pateryn/Kaberle

Price - Budaj

I think that's a very good team and could do some serious damage in the playoffs. We have 3 deep scoring lines, and a 4th line who can also chip in offensively.

Thoughts?

Looks like the Habs have found their solution for a big, tough defenseman - internally. Tinordi called up!

That rumor makes no sense. Why would the Jets want to trade Byfuglien?

Lots of speculations on the possibility that the Canadiens claim Ben Eager on waivers today. It won't happen. #RDS

No, he's right in thinking of Todd Simpson.

I think he'd be awesome, or he was, solid stay at home defeneseman who played with a mean streak. What could be better?

Love the idea, personally. Was always a big fan of Todd's since Calgary. No idea where he is now though...

It's intriguing, but it won't happen.
He left on bad terms, I know it's new MGMT, but it's still the same teammates.
Cammalleri is a playoff warrior though. Maybe i'm wrong.

The last thing this team needs is a drama queen who quit on his team and whined to the press. Also salary wise, we got rid of that contract once, I don't want it back again.

Eklund added TOR and MTL to the list of teams interested for site hits, that's it. Nothing to see there1

Do you guys think the Canadiens are legit contenders this year?

If they are.. you should be willing to load up and go for a run.

What would you be willing to part with right now?
2013 1st rounder? any of our various 2nd round picks? Prospects?

What do you think? Or do you just want to stand pat.

We will have one hell of a team in 3 years if we stand pat and let collberg, tinordi, beaulieu, ellis develop and galchenyuk especially.

Thoughts?

I want to add something at this deadline, maybe part with 1 of the 2nds, maybe a later pick and a less important prospect. Maybe Kristo's rights are worth dealing.. I don't know.

Nope
We've had a great regular season, I would be surprised if we made a run. Remember, we are still re-tooling. We are pretty much the same team that finished last place last season. One fluke season at the basement, one "fluke" season as the top team? I wouldn't mortgage the farm for a run this season, especially not until we know what we are.

I agree, at the same time my thoughts are that there has to be someone out there that is the right price that can really help this team.

I think about Wisniewski and the fact we only gave up a 4th to get him.. maybe bergevin can surprise me with something similar to that.. that is impactful.
