Rangers will be in the market for RD PP specialist

Quote:
Yes, the power-play has improved, as of late, but the unit has been abysmal through too many significant stretches this season. Ranked dead-last in the league at times, the Rangers (23rd, 15%) still lack a true power-play specialist and you can bet that a right-handed defenseman that plays the PP will be a top priority as the trade deadline approaches.

Webber from the Habs, Babchuk from the flames are the usual suspects in these scenarios. Let's assume they are not the targets.

What other options are there out there and what is the cost?

Sergei Gonchar, 2013 3rd Round Pick and Guillaume Latendresse for Stu Bickel and a 1st in 2014.

I hope to god the Canucks are too.

I highly doubt Visnovsky finishes the season with the Islanders.

If the Rangers want to overpay for Franson... He could be a depth addition.

PP Specialist probably isn't the right word for him though. He has a good shot, but not really the speed/other skills you'd expect from a PP QB.

Liles is available. B level Prospect or 2nd round pick should get it done. Not sure which hand he plays. But beggars can't be choosers.

Intriguing.

What would it take? The Rangers don't really need a QB as much as they need a booming shot from the point. The Rangers don't have a shooter on the blueline that can keep the PKers honest, but they have some solid playmakers in MDZ, Staal, and McD. Richards is also still a great passer, but his shot doesn't look as good as it once was.

I assumed a Right Defenseman would do just as well. Apparently I'm wrong.

For what it's worth, Sergei Gonchar is a RD.

I can't remember the last time we weren't in the market for a PPQB.

Maybe someday we'll draft one and be done with it

I know the Flames just signed him but Wideman? Or another option Campbell from Florida (they would probably have to keep some cap)

Jarret Stoll has a right, hard shot that can play the point on the PP. Want him? Just take him and everything reminiscent of him out of LA. Send us some girl scout cookies in return.

I was going to suggest White until I read this.

White doesn't have great shot

I don't think the Sharks and Rangers are good trading partners.

Marek Zidlicky would fit the bill. UFA, Right handed that could help the PP. Dunno if Jersey would trade him to a rival when they are battling for a play-off position though.
