Stastny to Florida

Paul Stastny to Florida for Brian Campbell. Campbell is a left handed d man that could do wonders with Erik Johnson. Not to mention could help Colorado's power play and have them not have there first unit with 5 forwards. I can't pretend to know what Florida's needs are but with Weiss hurt and maybe a free agent Stastny could step in and help out. Thoughts? maybe a + somewhere?

I think as a basis for a trade it looks pretty good. Maybe a + on one side or the other.

Probably the best metric to see if it's a fair trade... if ~75% of both fan bases complain and say no deal unless the other side adds a 1st or top prospect, and ~25% of both fan bases grudgingly accept, then it's probably pretty fair.

From an outside perspective, makes an enormous amount of sense.

As an Avs fan I would do this deal. Makes a ton of sense, but I don't think the Avs trade Stastny until they know if ROR will sign a more reasonable deal.

I think Campbell is just too old for the Avs core. If he was 4 years younger it would be a great fit.

This may be true but i don't think having a veteran defenseman like campbell on this team would be a bad idea. Could do wonders for Barrie.

Tallon wont trade him after getting him to waive his NTC to come here.Campbell was great last year and has been good offensively but poor defensively. He's not going to get traded. Our D would be decimated.

I agree. He's turning 34 in a couple of months. Most offensive defensemen regress in a big way after the age of 32-33 years. I have a feeling Campbell wouldn't be an impact player once Avs are ready to contend.

As others have said, if Campbell was a few years younger, I would strongly consider it.

Agreed. I would rather the Avs target a defenseman in the 20-27 year range.

As a few others have said. If Campbell was 4 years younger, I'd do it straight up.

But because of Campbells age, I would want something else added.

what if Florida added Shawn Matthias. Big 6 foot 4 Centerman. We could throw in one of our many defenseman

From an outside perspective, that's actually a really interesting idea. I can see it working for both sides. Campbell would fit so nicely alongside Johnson, and Stastny would give the Panthers some stability with Weiss out the door.

but...

The NTC thing might be a real sticking point. And from a Panthers perspective...Campbell is eating up so many minutes there, that would create a huge hole to fill if they moved him.

As already stated in this thread, if he were 4 or 5 years younger it would make sense. At his current age? Not a fan. Stay away

Colorado doesnt do this. Campbell is too expensive at $7M per with 3 seasons left, while Stasny has just 1 yr with a little less due.

Salary needs to be balanced out. Florida would need to absorb some of the salary due to lower the cap impact on colorado.

Had Campbells contract been shorter with just 1 yr left, then this would be a no brainer.

They could through in some stuff to balance out the salary impact like Florida has to take on someone with 3 yrs and $2M+ left that Colorado doesnt need. Florida sends back a 3rd-5th round pick or a B level prospect around the same caliber as the other player...just cheaper.

One of the better proposals involving Florida that I've seen here. I don't think it gets done simply because Campbell plays too big a role on our D even with Kulikov and Jovo healthy. Like every one else on Florida this year, he hasn't played up to his standards and hopefully isn't signs of regression.

Wouldn't be mad if this trade happened though. Always liked Stastny.

I think the biggest thing to consider with Campbell, is that his outstanding skating ability is what his game is built around...and not to say he's at the same level, but Niedermayer was a guy with his game built around that same skating ability, and he lasted until he looked like Santa Claus.

Watching Campbell even this year...he's still skating and moving the puck at an elite level and is so highly underrated because he's playing a role a bit over his head and has a big price tag attached. The guy is playing 26-27 minutes a night every night. That's half a game. That's more than Shea Weber this year. And he's doing it with...not much in the way of the steady stay-at-home partner capable of matching those minutes.

Too old for my taste. If we move Stastny it's for a guy more along Kulikov's line of work than Campbell's.

It's unlikely we move him anyways. The team needs to add a defender to EJ's pairing without losing our center depth in my opinion. Otherwise, as much of an addition as it will be, we'll still struggle to be more than a playoff bubble team.
