Man it's tough listening to Don's voice break when he tells the stories of these young kids that died...

Beautiful eulogy by Don. Such a sad story.

Glad he declared Bollands hit to be just fine.

And he finally pronounced Lucic correctly!

The best thing about Don Cherry is the Don Cherry twitter parody.

What was up with the story last night about that poor kid anyways??? Was that kid just a random Pens fan that had had his picture taken with Sid who had suddenly and unexpectedly died after that game he saw??? Or did he have a terminal illness and that was why he got to meet Crosby????

Either way...man that story was sad.

How did the topic of Lloyd Percival and Tarasov come into the discussion following the game? Anyone see it...

Really? I went to high school with one of the paramedics who died in the plane crash and have known his family for years. Good on Cherry for paying tribute to them. Much appreciated.

I don't mind Cherry doing eulogies but I would not mind if he talked about positive things too. Like a "young kid had a hat trick the other day". Stuff like that.

Regarding Hybrid icing on tonights Coacher's Corner, Cherry erred when he said they will waive off icing if its a dead heat race to the puck. In those instances, Icing IS called. Only if the defender is in clear position to touch the puck first is icing called. I hope someone corrected him because that's a big difference which affects his argument against it.

The reference by Ron McLean at the end just had me breathless due to extended laughter:

"The Duncan Do-Nots, the icing takes the cake on ..."

That's just amazing lol

yeah, one of the best parts of CC is the end with McLean's puns and Cherry shaking his head at them. It makes me laugh every time.

One thing about Ron Mclean, he is actually a very smart guy. You don't get to hear it on TV because the segments are so short, but on XM radio he's fantastic.

Did Cherry ever do eulogies, or segments supporting soldiers or vets 15-20 years ago? Seems like he's does this to retain a level of legitimacy. Otherwise he's nothing more than a cartoon character today.

He's been doing this kind of stuff forever...he is a hard shell kind of guy, who is a bit of nutcase, and yet he is a softie inside for the Vets, hockey players, and kids who love hockey...he is a sincere guy, with an arrogant attitude at times...

Love him or hate him, he is what he is...

Seriously. I remember a coaches corner back in the Spring after Pittsburgh acquired all those players at the deadline and he predicted the demise of the Penguins saying that putting guys in the press box that got you that far only brings morale down. The people that rip Donald S. Cherry tend to be the ones that are the cartoon characters.

Pretty much. He's more often right than wrong but he's outlandish so he's the easy target. I'm sure if he would be wearing glasses, have a lower voice and would be called like "the Doctor" he would be more respected, even if he would say the same things.

don cherry during the 5th intermission talked about using amphetamines (speed) as a player once and how it was prevalent at the time.
