Great point. Unfortunately, it appears that his shelf life is going a bit sour.

The Rangers have been overpaid and underperforming on the ice for YEARS -- no reason to think that the coach is always at fault.

Its the mentality of the environment. Look around the lockerroom. Look at the stars and the talent -- makes the big guns think that they can relax - and have less accountability.

And what happens? they consistently underperform...

and I love watching it happen, every year.

Least the Isles suck b/c they suck....

The players really accept this kind of coach?

gonna have to agree with this. Im an isles fan obviously but my brother is a diehard Rangers fan, so i watch a lot of games with him. I feel like his whole shtick is getting old in the locker room. Its obviously speculation, but it seems that way. And the benching of stars like gabby in key points of the game is a bit old too. I know hes been lackluster, but hes still a proven sniper and you need points in a very short season. Making an example/proving a point/punishing players is biting off your nose to spite your face at this point.

Not anymore apparently. He just has a personality that would get too tiring to keep listening to and tune him out eventually.

I love Tortorella. He's great for the game.

I'd hire him in a second.

Overpaid? Meh, I don't think this argument is valid in the Salary Cap Era. You can name several clubs that have overpaid players on their team at any given moment. They are underperforming this year though, that's for sure. There is something to be said about NYC and it's distractions.

Hitch lost the locker room in Philly and Columbus. Torts and Hitch are similar personalities imo. Alpha, drivers, they'll do amazing things, and can be very charismatic, but when they slide, they slide deep. Hitch says he realized before taking the STL job that he had to change, we'll see if that is true. Torts has got to figure it out because with that talent, anything less than a post season birth should cost him his job imo....and for what its worth, I really like the guy and love the color he brings to the game.

Glad he doesn't coach the Sabres, seems like a whiney version of Lindy Ruff
