Can the Jets win the division

With the way Carolina Hurricanes are playing(solid team and doing well) can we win South East division. What would our record have to look like going forward(or that depends on what the Canes record looks like).
The Canes have 23 games left with 31 points,
The Jets have 28 points with 22 games left.

Possible...

I think Cane's may be a slightly better team, but if Pavelec can be a difference maker, then... well there will be a difference haha

EDIT: according to sportsclubstats.com it's 12% haha

I sure won't hold my breath. But at this point, it could be very well possible.

Its possible.
The Canes are rolling right now though.
I think we have a decent shot.

No

Canes are rolling. They are our only real competition. Washington and Florida are basement dwellers. Tampa is on their way down too.

Carolina is 3 ahead of us with a game in hand. Certainly possible, but I wouldn't bank on it.

We do have a really good chance of sliding into 8th though. Jersey is slipping, the Rangers are stagnating and it seems as if TO is back to their usual self.

Our Thursday game will be huge.

I think it will be tough. The Canes will be getting a good player back in
Tuomo Ruutu that will add to the scoring on the third line.
The addition of Semin who is second in the NHL in +/- and is good on
both the PP and PK along with Jordan Staal has add a lot of depth.

Actually, the Rangers have been playing very well lately, other than tonight, so I wouldn't count on them dropping out any time soon.

May come down to goaltending. Is Pavelec the recent goalie who would outplay Cam Ward? Or is he the guy who at times this season would make Dan Ellis comparatively look like a Vezina candidate?

Ward is out for probably the rest of the season, so who knows.

Ellis has put up better numbers though...

I hope so. I really want a South East banner to confuse the heck out of people in 30 years.

I definitely think so. They need to keep playing like they have been though.

Unless Caroline suffers an injury on their top line, I don't see us overcoming them. They have a better top six and find ways to win, even with sub-par goaltending (unlike the Jets who are currently relying on their goaltending).

If either Washington or the Lightning pick up an elite goaltender (hello Luongo) I also see us struggling for a playoff spot.

What would be even more confusing would be a Stanley Cup final between the eastern champion Jets and the western champion Red Wings

Carolina is too strong this year, they will take the title unfortunately.

If we can keep up our play over the last 10 games, we get the second place and finish 6th or 7th in the east. This is possible if we stay healthy and Pav and Monty keep their big play up.

Getting the SE title would be awesome. Funniest thing in the NHL in a while and it will be funny for a long time

But I doubt it happens. Only if Eric Staal gets injured and their 2nd scoring fall into a hole (Tlusty for ex.).

Perhaps, but we'll have to win the rest of our games against Carolina.

Canes are on pace for 59.52 points.
Jets are on pace for 51.69 points.

So baisically the Jets have to make up a difference of 8 points over the remaining games. It'll have to be a combination of a Canes falter and Jets improving their pace.

I honestly think we have a shot.

It's not a good one, but with Cam Ward out, they don't have reliable goaltending. If Pavs can keep his game up and the team gets hot, we'll have a shot.

The key is regaining their MTS centre confidence/dominance (as in last night's performance). If they win the majority of their home games down the stretch they can absolutely overtake Carolina.

The fact that we have 3 games left against them puts our fate in our hands.

That could be a 12 point swing. No Cam Ward for them also helps us out.

I think it's definitely possible. I guess we will have to see if this group has actually taken the next step or if it's just smoke and mirrors.

No kidding. This is my secret goal.

Realistically though, Carolina has a couple bad games or we beat them however many times we play them yet, and it's ANYBODIES division. Especially with Ward out, and the Jets having a big homestand at the end of the season, and us all knowing deep down if they can get back into yesteryear's (or yesterdays) home groove, they'll end up well above 500.

I sure as hell hope so because I don't want our first playoff experience being against the Penguins. If we're going to make it in, I'd like to believe that there is even a small chance we could win or at the very least it will be a long hard fought series.

Against Pittsburgh it will be an endless parade of goals and highlight reel plays from Malkin, Neal, Crosby, Letang and Kunitz. Won't be at all enjoyable to watch. It would be absolutely demoralizing.
