Wow that's surprising, Can't believe they couldn't even get a late round pick for him.

Oilers have an abundance of wingers and good top six players. If the bottom six suck they can play the top lines more. Or bring in a new winger from the PB. On defense, they are weaker, so if one pair is sucking they dont have the luxury of playing one pair 26+ a game (they can but wed bleed GA) so they have to carry additional D to bring in one, just incase one pairing sucks

I'm surprised by this, but at the same time it makes sense. Eager has the physical tools to do a lot more than he was doing; and since the Mike Brown trade, Brown has been much better than Eager in seemingly every area.

I don't think it was a bad signing in the first place; some players just seem to flop when they come here.

Yes I'm 100% sure the Oilers management didn't see if any other team would give up a pick for him before they put him on waivers. I mean, why would they do that?

Who was the guy who concussed Eager in Training Camp a couple years ago?

Two concussions in two years means he cant play the tough guy role anymore. Good thing Brown was picked up.

But that would ruin the narrative of some of the posters here.

Don't you watch any of the games? He threw a big hit now and then but he doesn't drop the gloves any more. So NO is wasn't doing what they signed him for. And now that they traded for Brown, Eager isn't needed.

Did like the guy, so hope he gets picked up.

I remember that well. What a horrible way to start with a new team. I don't think we ever got to see Ben Eager healthy as an Oiler.

Smyth is 10x more effective than Eager. If it's a choice between the two, it's an easy decision to send Eager packing.

moron? The guy is/was fighting for his career and he needed to make a statement. He popped a guy that was supposed to be able to absorb the hit. I don't mind this hit at all.

Probably mentioned, but Fistric is coming off the IR so they need a roster spot.

Yea, easy decision to send Eager but Smyth is not 10x more effective. Eager can keep up with anyone. Smyth can't keep up with anyone.

He has the second-worst Corsi in the league, he has injury concerns, and he's making over a million bucks. He's radioactive bad.

I'm shocked it took that long for something like that to happen. A guy that knows this team lacks physical players so he tries to show the team he can be that guy by stepping up in a meaningless game.

As for Eager, really nice to see because if it wasn't him it was Harti or Prv back to okc.

Who cares if he can keep up with anyone, with his hockey IQ, his speed is pointless, I have no problem with Smyth on the 4th line. I don't mind a Smyth-Belanger-Brown/Petrell 4th line!

That's probably the worst fourth line in the league, but it's still better for not having Eager on it.

Not disputing that, just saying that is what I would like with the Oilers Current make up of players

I depressed myself pretty hard there looking up stats. They're even worse than I thought they'd be & I kind of want to just put my head down for a while

LOL actually no it hasn't. In the 5 or 6 pages of this thread this is pretty much a summary:

"Eager is a 20 goal guy, stupid move"
"Not surprising Brown made him expendable"
"Wow Tambo is such an idiot for signing this guy and now it's a waste in the minors"

I'd like if anyone here can tell me who's currently on the Oilers 23-man roster and the IR, thanks.

Not bad, 19 minutes per game. That's just above what Taylor Hall gets. No biggie.

That is the million dollar question. We seem to fluke out with guys magically going on the IR when someone else comes off of it. Then guys go to OKC with little notice either.
