That's not to mention that I still had to click on the Oilers. So not only was the post a fail but the link was as well.

edit: Here we go: http://oilers.nhl.com/club/roster.htm

That shows 26 guys. It includes Eager who's on waivers and Fistric and Belanger who are on the IR.

So that means once Eager clears or gets claimed they are at the 23 man limit with 2 guys on IR. So him getting sent down because Fistric or Belanger are coming off isn't true.

I'll give it a shot, easiest way is to go through the lines and who's out

Hall-Horcoff-Hemsky
Paajarvi-Gagner-Yakupov
Jones-RNH-Eberle
Smyth-Belanger-Brown
Petrell, Eager*

Smid-Petry
Whitney-Schultz
Schultz-Potter
Peckham

Dubnyk
Denis

IR: Khabibulin, Lander, Hartikainen(?), Fistric, Sutton
*I believe he still counts until he's assigned somewhere

So my guess is when Belanger comes back Hartikainen goes back to OKC and if Fistric comes back then Peckham is the odd guy out.

Just saying my opinion of who I'd move.

Edit: Nevermind the damn site has Sutton listed on there but not on IR lol. But on the injury page it states he's a non-roster player so then they have 25 right now with 2 on IR and one in limbo which means they will be at 22 when Eager clear or gets claimed tomorrow. So then I suppose Fistric could come off without having to move anyone.

It was the Joey Moss cup man... it's supposed to be non-contact. Ben Eager wouldn't be bracing himself to absorb a hit in an inter-squad non-contact game.

Tulupov is an idiot.

Like Replacement, I get the feeling he didn't have a lot of friends inside the locker-room. Might not have been popular in the room.

Physicality, attitude, fighting??? No. Those aren't the reasons he got waived. The reason, the only one, is that he gets plugged in his own zone and can't get out...and gives up at least twice as many chances as he generates. That kills hockey teams, and he was clearly the weakest link. Way worse than even VV, who was playing a harder position at centre.

If Tambellini actually looked at things this way, our team would look very different than it does, and would likely be much higher in the standings over the last few years.

As long as he retires in summer of 2013, otherwise buyout

By 10x more effective you mean 10x less? At least Eager can hit and skate, the only reason we're getting rid of him is because Mike Brown can do that and fight. Smyth can't do anything, makes Colin Fraser look like a good player.

Smyth is an underrated passer, lest not forget passes to MPS and Hemsky in Colorado for their goals. In the bottom six you need a guy that can actually make a few plays. Eager has better physical attributes but not much more.

I liked some of his games this year to be honest. But I guess he didn't bring it on a consistent enough basis...

Chalk up another on the growing list of failed Steve Tambellini UFA pick ups.

the oilers aren't going to waste one of the 2 buyouts you are allowed under the new CBA on smyth and his 2.25 million cap hit... nor should they.... we aren't going to be up against the cap next year, so saving 2.25 isn't really worth it... just sit smyth every 2nd or 3rd game next year, play him on the 4th line when he does play and let him retire in 2014

His roster spot holds the Oilers back, he's DONE.

Smyth is a good 4th liner. Overpaid but he will give you solid contributions if you restrict him to 4th line minutes. I have no issues if they keep Smyth in the current role he is playing moving forward.

He isn't a good 4th liner, because he can't do anything. He's can't get there. If Vande Velde wasn't so terrible, Smyth would be in the pressbox.

Was gonna start a "Ben Eager needs to stay an Oiler" thread. Looks like I may have to hold off on that one.
