I'm sorry, but half of a season of playing like a bottom feeder outweighs 2 or 3 games of them looking like a playoff team for me. (If we can even call it that, they only looked good for the first 10 minutes last night)

My biggest issue is that they tend to only look good against SE opponents (and Buffalo, but they're Buffalo so...). They've got enough of those coming up to put together a respectable finish, but I don't like their chances otherwise.

Quite a few said to expect 25 games to figure out the system.

It's more than I would have ever expected, but whatever.

How many non SE opponents have we faced in games 26+? I am not sure its a decent enough sample size to tell us anything. League wide its seems, there are fans wondering how their team didn't show up on a given night. back to back, star injured, playing hungover, bad matchup, goalie fail... too many variables to read much from one game.

I am still pissed I cracked and looked at the standings. The standings mean little. Look at what you see on the ice instead, in more than one game. Look at ~ 3 to 10 game trends.

I like Murray, but man he seemed to get old fast this season. Will be interesting to see what the return is.

I know Pittsburgh uses analytics but I'd really like to know what they used to justify these two moves. Otherwise they seem like the old loading up on warriors when it's increasingly a game of speed.

No one is talking about them a whole lot but I'm curious what Montreal does at the deadline. They're a real sleeper team if they can add a forward or two IMO.

Maybe Pitt is building themselves to get out of our conference. Feeling they are going to have to get dirty to get past the defensive shell game they will see come playoff time.

It would seem a team has to be able to go both turtle and rabbit mode. I am surprised more teams don't try to vary their style more, series to series. Swap out Hammer for Orlov type of moves.

Also as for the Morrow acquisition... Guerin was looked at as a great pick up because he played with Crosby. Morrow likely won't, he'll play with Sutter and Tyler "slapshot" Kennedy probably. That's a worse supporting cast than he had in Dallas where he's been awful.

Another thing to look at is they play a run n gun style. Murray and Morrow will slow that down tremendously. They're awful skaters.

Two 2nd round picks. LOL.

Oh yeah and this Dan Rosen guy is slurping it up too.

Great job by Ray Shero to get Morrow and reportedly Murray. If it's two 2nd-rd. picks to SJ for Murray, great job by Doug Wilson, too.
Too?

You really wish we had Shero?

Thanks Pitt for setting the market high for Ribs if we trade him

We might as well trade Schultz to. Based on the Murray trade we could fetch a 2nd + 3rd for him.

IINM Morrow is going to play with Malkin and Neal, so he'll get his points no matter how washed up he actually is.

George should be moving the spare parts at the deadline, if he is not going to move Ribs. Retaining Ribs is a strong win now move, and thus think he should try to peddle Sarge for 2 2nds.

TSN sent me a mobile message about the Murray trade as to say "Holy ****, they actually did this." because I was not informed about the Morrow deal.

Morrow = Kunitz
Murray = Gill

Shero is recreating the only formula he knows. Question is, who = Guerin? Iginla?

I think people will be surprised at how good Morrow and Murray look when they suit up for the Pens. All this talk of regression and being washed up will likely turn into fawning over Shero again.

Ribeiro doesn't have the same comparative value as Morrow or Murray. These types of players are gold in the playoffs every year, and then hf collectively proceeds to forget it by the time next year's training camp rolls around because they are "old" and "slow"

Hal Gill
Roman Hamrlik
Mark Recchi
Bill Guerin
Matt Greene

That's what the pens are shooting for, playoff wise. Old and slow flies out the window when you know they will deliver, which Murray and Morrow absolutely will. By the time June rolls around everyone will see it firsthand.

The deadline is much less about the big names than the right ones.

FTFY. Say what you want about Murray and Morrow's skating, at least Shero isn't afraid of his own shadow.

Plus I think Morrow = Guerin in your scenario. His leadership and character outweigh his diminishing physical skills at this point, but the SC playoffs have never been a skills contest... or else the Caps would have won a few Cups by now. Shero's brings in Captain quality players, not Alex Semin's.

Sweet. Doug Murray on the ice against Michael Grabner this Saturday. Those literally might be the slowest and fastest men in the National Hockey League.

I wonder if this is Shero panicking about the window closing with the 2014 offseason, when Malkin, Kunitz, Sutter, Letang, Orpik, Niskanen, and Despres will all need new contracts. They could have some trouble getting all those guys signed, since a lot of them are looking at significant raises.

this.

Great trades. Heart and soul guys with a last shot at a cup. Gonna pay big dividends. If they bring in Iggy on top of these two, I just give up.
