Nope first I've heard of anything. Kind of dumb IMO and even worse that taxpayers are subsidizing it. Should've kept the arena and turned it into a museum.

It was some of the sugar given to the Pens as part of the deal to keep them in Pittsburgh. They have the right to develop the area around the arena. But unlike the Pirates and Steelers, who were given that right forever, and dicked around forever, they had to develop a certain amount of the acerage in a set period of time or lose the right. Once developed it generates tax dollars remember. The Steelers and Pirates have screwed us a LOT more by letting a lot of the property they were given the right to develop just sit there.

In any event it was not stupid, it was part of what had to be done to keep the Pens in Pittsburgh.

It's better as a parking lot.

What makes you think VitaleLand wouldn't have a parking lot too? Win-win!

Well obviously whatever the Steelers want they get, I mean lets be real here. Especially in 2000-2001 when the Pens were the lowest man on the totem pole.

I'm against any kind of subsidizing like that though.. I mean make the taxpayers build something and then charge them prohibitive prices to use it? I love Pittsburgh's sports history as much as anybody from here but come on...
