The West is Just.... Wow

Over halfway through the shortened season. And 6 points between 3rd and 15th. I'm convinced all 13 of those teams have bipolar fanbases who are convinced that THEY are sucking especially bad this year.

lol

Has there even been a race this tight at the midway point?

hardly much different out east

4th out east has more points, and more teams with 30+ points to make up for our bottom 2 teams with only 20.

doesn't west have a bunch more 3 point games? as in skewed phantom points. like 10 more than east.

i know there's no cross conference games, but things seem generally even. i ain't wowing bout nobody tbh.

It's going to be a great race. Amazing that everyone still has a chance to make the playoffs.

Clearly a sign that the Conference sucks this season, if the records of Chicago and Anaheim did not make that claim strongly enough.

Fine line between parity and mediocrity .

Eastern Conference:
158 games decided in regulation
19 decided in overtime
20 decided in the shootout

Western Conference
134 games decided in regulation
24 decided in overtime
34 decided in the shootout

Last time the race was this tight overall? 1994-95, duh.

Sure. The bottom 7 in the East have 68 Regulation & OT wins combined, the bottom 7 in the West have 61 ROW.... yet 15 more points. Courtesy of loser points.

the west is either a lot stronger/teams closely matched, or they just have no finish in regulation haha

I find the East pretty boring like it just does not appeal to me for some reason. The West there is lots of fighting and it is competitive some scoring and I just like the teams.

The West has had 19 more OT games then the east, and the game styles are more defensive so its not surprising that the standings are a little more tight. With so many defensive-oriented games the outcomes are bound to go either way more often, as a lucky bounce here or there can mean a lesser skilled team comes out with a win.

Its more due to the style of play as opposed to the strength of the teams.

The trade deadline is going to be interesting if this continues.

less scoring = less seperation within games = more 3 point games. At least that's my guess.

I don't know if that little separation between Teams is anything to brag about though. Sure makes for an exciting race.

It already does.

The Oilers have been in 'must win' mode for over a week.

you think so? I think due to things being unusually tight we might not see many teams willing to sell.

I don't think so. I suspect it's going to be a whole lot of teams fumbling stumbling there way into the playoffs more or less by accident.

More competitive all around. The "crap" teams don't believe that they're losers. They keep fighting.

With how dominant Chicago and Anaheim have been, thats probably a sign that the West IS weaker than the East. They're are two really solid teams who have beat up on the mediocrity abound in the West.

Anaheim gotten at least two points from the following teams:

Chicago
Los Angeles
Vancouver
San Jose
St. Louis
Detroit

In what way exactly are we preying on the weak? Have you looked at the standings? There are no easy games/teams in the west...although Vancouver and Nashville gave us a couple of really easy ones this year.

Detroit's pretty much ****ed if they don't at least break .500 on this 8 game stint.

What about the 15 point difference between 3rd and 1st!? I mean come on you cant call this a tight conference at all.
