Not shocking, guy still thinks he's better than he really is.

Meh.

I liked how he was a breath of honesty and fresh air when he got here, but the losing mentality of the vets of this team got to him a bit and he turned into one of "them."

Whitney can still play for sure. I just think he needs to be playing on a team that's good enough to cover up some of the errors he makes on the ice.

It's a shame things worked out the way they did. He was so impressive in the first couple of seasons he was here. Then the injury happened.

The guy we initially acquired was exactly what this team needed and still needs.

He could still be that guy, but for us we need more then just a could. Him not playing during the lockout hurt him, although him playing during the lockout could've hurt as well.

Very curious to see what he ends up with.

Agreed. He was almost Norris calibre for a while before his injury.

Sucks for both him and the Oilers.

They just mentioned on CHED that Whitney was not happy with Schultz playing ahead of him and also taking his A. I can't say I blame him much. Schultz having the A is baffling.

It's funny that he wants to sign with a good team because on a good team, he'd be a depth defenseman, which means he'll get scratched.

Why? Remember that we only see the on-ice product. We have no idea what happens in the dressing room, which is a huge part of who would get a letter.

Whitney will likely end up somewhere on a one year deal. He's a PMD with something to prove, which will entice a GM somewhere. Not to mention the shallow FA pool.

Why is this even news? It was 100% apparent that he was gonzo about 1/4 of the way through the season. It was just a matter if we slime a draft pick for him at the deadline or if we let him walk.

Worst defenseman on the team and that is saying something. Far faster with a Twitter quip than he ever was on the ice. Losing him is addition by subtraction.

The fact that he admitted he didn't have the right attitude in 11-12 and then his fit he had after being benched, I can blame him. Then to come out again and complain? Not captain material in my books.

Nice, Schultz is a veteran player that's well respected around the league. Hr wore a letter in Minny and had the very important role of Mentoring the other Schultz. Take away about 5 games and Whitney was probably out worst defenceman almost every night.

Can't blame him. Any of us would be upset if we were in that position. A good fresh start should help him get his game back.

Whitney and the Blog boys are the only ones confused that a "healthy Whitney" exists.

He died years ago.

I'm sure he will have a bounce back year like Souray. Oh well, happy trails Ryan.

Difference is, Souray always had his ability. Not sure that Whitney can regain his mobility.

Wish Whitney good luck and bon voyage, had a tough go the past 2 years and definitely was frustrating with all the injuries. Then I think some of the bad vibes from the vets, the media, all the losing started adding up, then when he was getting scratched you knew he was done. Not really upset he'll be gone given the deterioration of his play but I think there's definitely still a player there. I actually do agree with him and think he would be a better player if playing on a better club .
