I question the source, but if it's true I can't say I blame him. He has given the Wings a lot of great years. I can't blame him for wanting to go play in his homeland for a couple of years.

Assuming his 2012-13 PPG is constant, and he plays 82 games next year at the same PPG he would have.

862 GP 280 G 568 A 848 P

Even with his Selkes he's still likely not a HoFer.

Geno won't return home in 2014. Can guarantee that.

He's going to be a HoF'er just because of his skillset. He was a generational talent. He brought something that this game hasn't seen in awhile, and excelled while doing so. PPG player, cups, awards, and unbelievable skillset.... HoF all day long.

No surprise for me, he loved it during the lockout and he stated before he wants to finish his career in Russia.

I think he will finish his career in the KHL, but stay in Detroit until is around 40 years old.

Hope he can reach 300 goals before he leaves. Currently has 248.

Extremely unlikely he gets that if he doesn't sign an extension before leaving, guaranteed to get it if he does sign an extension.

Unfortunately he will be with the cups and selkes. I'm sorry that someone not Canadian will get in.

well, he seemed really happy playing in russia. and while the others ran like crazy across the pond with big smiles on their faces at the first whistle about the end of the lockout he, along with kovy, was not so eager to go. good for him

Babcock continues to push him away too. Pavel has to be getting sick of playing with downright awful line mates. When Datsyuk leaves so does the teams success for a looooooooooong time.

Sorry, Pi, but the author of the article is not a confirmed source.

If there's corroboration (not just a re-posting of the blog) by a recognized media outlet, please PM a moderator to have this re-opened.

Makes a lot of sense

He doesn't have anything to prove anymore: he's one of the best forwards in the NHL and has been for a long time and he's got the hardware

I'd want to go and finish my career at home as well in that situation

Why wouldn't he? Just because he's not from the US doesn't mean he doesn't know or follow American Football. I'm from Pittsburgh, does that mean I shouldn't know who Lionel Messi is?

I didn't realize Evgeni Malkin posted on hfboards!

The lockout might come back to bite the NHL in this regard, the Russian players got to play for their hometown clubs and see how the KHL has improved, and now likely would be able to get paid and play at home. Why wouldn't they go back?

As a Leafs fan this makes me happy, with the new re-alignment I don't want him to torch us 6 times a year (or however much we play them)

I don't blame him. Detroit is god-awful when it comes to Coaching and GM in the last year and a half or so.

Datsyuk is likely sick of the way this team is being run recently.

Draft well, operate stupid.

This.

I think it is probably wishful thinking on behalf of their home countries more than reality. Jagr is a cautionary tale for a lot of these players, not an example. He left too much on the NHL table to have left, and I bet he regrets it now.

I think it is both noble and acceptable for a guy to want to go home and play a year or two once he is past his time as an NHL player. But until that time comes, it is only speculation. Right now Datsyuk is playing great hockey and shows no sign of being "over the hill".

He's going to abandon them for 18 months of idiocy? He's just going to forget the last 12 years of dominance they've had that included several cups? Seems like a ridiculous statement to make.

Anyone think that maybe he just wants to play at home before it's too late?

Datsyuk has a daughter in Russia. That certainly makes it more than wishful thinking.

Datsyuk just doesn't have the stats or exceptional awards (Hart, Art Ross,Smythe) to get into HoF, IMO.

Different for lids and Datsyuk, though. Lidstrom had his family here. Was also surrounded by his countrymen on the team.

Pavs daughter is in Russia with his ex wife. He also has no other Russian players around him. Rumors are he has requested a Russian to play with for a few years and it hasn't happened.

Do these things factor in enough for him to go home? Don't know, only someone close to him has those answers. Just the Lidstrom comparison isn't as similar as it seems on the surface.
