Awesome news. I thought he'd get over 4 forsure. No NTC or NMC is a bonus.

I think it's a fair contract. glad he's staying here, and hopefully Smid can be used in his proper role going forward. Itwould have ripped the heart out of the defense if he left.

Or at least that is how Feaster interprets the new CBA.

no. because hes consistent with what he does. he's a 2 if paired with an elite D. he's a 3-4 any day of the week with any one else.

the only disappointing thing is that he's such a solid skater for his role and seems to be just skilled enough to help offensively but never put it together.

Great deal for both sides. Wish Tambo would of given Ladi the extra year he wanted considering the cap will probabaly go up at the end of the deal and Ladi will be in his prime. A great Gm would of signed him 6 yrs at 3.5, a bad Gm would of signed him 3 yrs at 4m.

Just take a look at Philly's defense salary if you need a boost about this signing.

This is exactly what Smid is worth. He would fetch more in a UFA bidding war, but anything over 3.5 is an overpay.

I like this signing and a pair of Smid and Petry has been looking lights out again the last few games. We need that top pairing dman to play with J.Schultz though. I can't see us having enough cap space to keep N.Schultz after next season plus he is over paid by over 1mil.

Happy for everyone in this deal.

Could have been much worse, either no signing or a ridic salary.

Kudos to Tambo and Smid

Very happy to hear this. Good job, Tambo. And I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say, "We love Ladi!"

Fair deal, he wanted to stay here and he didn't price himself off of the team.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. 4 years not having to worry about the rugged stay-at-hoome guy to babysit youngsters in the regular season and throw out against the wolves in the playoffs.

I think Smid is that second level stay-at-home type. Not one of the true elites like Foote/Regehr/Staal, but the Rathje/Ragnarsson/Carney/J. Smith/McKee/Scuderi/Girardi family. ESSENTIAL for postseason success.

Looks like he took a discount and he wants to be here. We want ya too, Laddy. Slap a letter on his chest and don't look back!

So happy with this signing. Checkmark MacTamblowe.

Dmen that play the game the way Smid do are not hitting their prime at 31. I would say their best days are probably behind them at that point.

A deal starting with a 3 is a great deal for the Oil.

This is just the type of deal we need to be signing our 2nd tier players to so we remain cap compliant in future.

Now just give Smid a letter

No offense to Schultz, but I would have given Smid the letter.

I hope everyone remembers how they feel about this deal 2-3 years down the road. I like it and think it is a great deal but I just don't want to hear how Tambo sucks and made a terrible signing down the road...

Seems to happen with everyone he signs...

To be fair, the only signings the team's made post Horcoff that I haven't liked were Khabibulin (too much, too long, for too old a player), and Eager (always hated him, thought it was too much, and didn't want to think of him needing a spot on the team). I'll stand by those, awful deals.

At the time, I really liked the Belanger/Petry/Hall deals, was okay with Eberle/Sutton/Jones/Dubnyk/Gagner deals. It's Tamblowe's inactivity that gets me, but that's carried a conservativeness with it that means he hasn't signed any back breakers. I lump this Smid contract in with Hall/Petry/Belanger. I hope it works out better than Eric's.
