Whitney would you resign him if he keeps it up?

Whitney has finally picked it up and is playing the way we need him to. Has a lazer pass and is jumping into the play.

If he keeps it up to the deadline do you resign him or trade him?

I know I'll be in the minority, but I think we resign him for 1 season. I think he will come cheap and accept a 1 year deal due to his injury history. We could probably get a 2nd out of him at the deadline, but I think it serves the team better having a veteran blueliner on our back end rather than counting on Klefbom or some other kid next season.

Contract extension will be expensive. His return if he keeps it up will be decent. I will rather take the return from a playoffs contender.

Nope - you trade his a$$ while the irons hot and he's improved his value a little bit.

Have to just be thankful that he may have increased his value a little.
We need to dump him at the deadline. His attitude/compete is inconsistent
Along with his play. Hopefully a gm is desperate and fooled enough
So we could get a 2nd round pick.

Even if he keeps this up I doubt we get much more than a 2nd or an average at best prospect for him.

If we get on a roll and are in the playoff mix by the deadline I would just keep him, if we are out I trade his ass.

If he keeps this up to the deadline I would sign him to a 1 yr deal. If he won't sign a 1 yr deal then I trade him. I must admit his last few games have been really good.

Heeeell no. Though I'd rather him for another year than Tambellini swinging for the "fence" that is Jack Johnson or whatever moronic thing he'll do instead.

Keep him if we can extend him by the deadline, $3MM max.

He's been good now that he's getting his legs back, and it seems he is good in the dressing room with the young guys.

Trade him while he is playing good. He has not proven he can do it for a long stretch.

If you keep him, you offer him a much lower salary.

We have brutal defensive depth and very little offence coming from the back end.

Unless we can replace him with a better player, we may as well keep him.

He's a walking band-aid. Trade him before his feet give out again.

Trade him and sign someone else in the off season. He makes too much to be a bottom pairing d-man.

If he keeps putting up the numbers, then I am fine with re-signing him for 1 year. If he wants a longer deal then that, then he needs to be moved.

That is why it is only for a 1yr deal and there are still 6-7 games to see what he can do. I do agree that he was really bad until this but if he has turned a corner he is the type of dman we need on this team. Great lazer pass and jumps into the offense.

So you're saying you're surprised that a player that suffered a debilitating ankle injury took a little while to get going?

I do beleive that last game he was paired with J.Schultz. If you can get 20-21 mins a night from Whitney as a top four for only 4mil it is a good deal. It all depends if he can keep it up.

No. He's played, what, 5 good games in 2 seasons?? Odds are that doesn't keep up.

And "good games" for him now are getting points. But he still bleeds chances against, can't turn properly, and gets beat on the outside almost every time...STILL. If they could pick up a 3rd, even a 2nd, a decent prospect, or a struggling young player in need of a change of scenery, I'd trade him in a heartbeat.

I don't see him as a long term piece on the team. He's motivated now because he's been benched and his future in the league is unclear. I'd trade him at the deadline. Even if he keeps playing well, I don't think it would be a great loss. Let another team take that chance.

IMO, its as simple as are we in contention for the playoffs at the deadline. If we are, keep him, and try and get him to sign a 1 year contract. If we're out of it, trade him

I voted no and say we trade him

here us my logic

Of whitney, Smid and Fistric, Whitney is the weakest link. Smid is a core guy and needs to get signed. Fistric adds grit to the game the oilers need. Oilers have Petry and j Schultz for PMDs and Ni Schultz as another vet leader

Oilers have 8 d-men on their roster right now and have several d-men who will need at least a cup of coffee next year

Klefbom
Marancin
Teubert
those three should be racking up flying pts from OK city all year

I think the oiler need to add a d-man that has more grit then Whitney

Also, Whitney is on 4mill a year and I do not see him taking a pay cut. While the oilers will not have cap problems next year, if they signed Whitney say to a 4 year 16mill deal--that could cause problems.

Until the last few games, he has sucked for two years and that is not wiped out that quickly
