Hope he signs a huge contract. We need him to fix the 3rd line. And it's gonna take a long time doing it.

Pretty sure that both sides talking abut a 1 yr deal for Soderberg? B's see what they are getting, Carl gets a sneak-peak at life in the NHL.
Then he can bolt for Pittsburgh.

Do we really want a guy who can't even win the playoffs in Sweden?

Would Soderberg even get to play in the playoffs if he is comes here after the April 3rd trade deadline? Didn't that happen last year with Marty Turco (although we didn't expect to use Turco in the playoffs anyhow).

Per OOG:

- He can sign at anytime (even after deadline) and be eligible for both regular season and playoffs.

Soderberg is Bruins' property and Turco wasn't

Has any hockey federation ever blocked a player from coming to the NHL so they could play in the World Championships?

With our luck ! Watch him get 6-12 months in prison for wanting to leave his country, and miss our signing deadline in July....and find out later Shero paid off Sweden officials

2-1 Skelleftea in the second round. They played today, play every other day. If they make the Championship it's four rounds. He could be in Boston soon if Linkopings loses a couple more quickly.

Isn't his contract situation similar to the one last Spring with the Predators? I can't for the life of remember the player now or if he is even still playing in the NHL.

There seems to be some confusion on how the system works. All European Leagues fall under the guidelines of the IIHF and an agreement with the NHL on transfer of players. Although the KHL never formally signed that agreement, they have their own agreement with the NHL that still requires IIHF approval. So in sticking with the Soderberg scenario, it goes like this

-Bruins would seek permission from the Swedish Ice Hockey Fed on the transfer and they would sign his card

-Bruins would seek permission from USA Hockey and have them sign his transfer card

-IIHF, when the Bruins have those two signatures, would then sign his transfer card.

However, since Soderberg is under contract already in Sweden, Bruins would have to negotiate with his club FIRST.

http://www.iihf.com/fileadmin/user_u...s_20130204.pdf

As for whether they have withheld a transfer for a player to play in the WC, i'm not sure. But there is a precedent.

Hockey Canada did not sign the transfer for Nail Yakupov to play in the KHL back in September. The IIHF had not signed off on the transfer because Hockey Canada hadn't signed the transfer card and thus deemed him ineligible to play and fined the KHL.

The KHL in turn deemed Yakupov ineligible to play until the matter was settled and his transfer card was signed.

The fine? What GloryDaze earns in a week - a measly $5000.00
