High Draft Picks you didn't think would pan out, but did

Similar to the "High draft picks you knew were terrible from the get go" but the other way around, where you were wrong about them.

High Draft pick meaning anyone in the first round really.

I remember laughing at the Caps for taking Backstrom instead of Brassard.

Some glorious crow.

Didn't Pietrangelo have a lot of question marks about him before he was drafted?

I stupidly thought Steven Stamkos was going to be a bust, and after his rookie year, I was rubbing it in all my friends faces.......I was 15 at the time, I was young....so young, sooo stupid.

Price is way up there. Goalie 5th overall? You kidding me? But lo and behold, he's got pure ice running through his veins. has his bad moments, but doesn't let them weigh him down... absolutely a requirement for playing in Montreal. You can't buy that kind of confidence... was worth the 5th overall for sure.

Looks like Kadri is actually arriving too.. all of HFBoards, including a llot of Leaf fans, might be eating crow for a few years on that one.

Blake Wheeler...

He's not really a top-end talent but when he got drafted it was soo off the chart and they were like ''Gretzky love this kid, he's so big and talented'' and so on... I couldn't believe a High Schooler was picked so high. Im not even sure if he was ranked in the 1st round and still got pick 5th overall.

Hubreadeau. I was shocked when he didn't make the Panthers while the other two before him made the NHL, I thought he'd be a bust

The 2 biggest for me are Eberle (and I'm pretty damn happy about being wrong ) and Huberdeau

Nicklas Backstrom

I can't remember why, maybe just to bring my friend a Caps fan down.

I did not think Couture's game would translate this well this quickly. Thought he was too small and frail for the size of the NHL and would need to beef up before making a significant impact.

Still does need some more muscle, but the guy has already proven he has an elite shot and is a great goal scorer.

Giroux. Didn't buy into the hype at all.
Pietrangelo same story.
Eberle same story.
OEL same story.
Brodin to an extent. I knew he'd be good just didn't think he'd be THIS good.

Carey Price. Not that I didn't expect him to be good, but I really thought it was a bonehead move for Montreal to draft a goalie. I think a lot of guys thought Brule would be a better fit. Good job by the Habs in that case.

I thought Kadri would be too soft to translate to the NHL, but he's doing well this year.

A lot of Oiler fans hated the Dubnyk pick, but he's looking pretty good as our number one, so he probably could sneak into this discussion.

Kari Lehtonen too, I thought Atlanta was crazy for drafting him 2nd overall. Looks like they were crazy for trading him now.

Pietro unfortunately. He's out west and to me he was a sleeper but I just never thought about him much.

Wasn't a fan of the Oshie pick at the time.
