The only other time I recall Ferraro mentioning his son was during an Oilers game on TSN earlier in the season (against LA maybe?). The reason he did so was because he was discussing Justin Schultz whom Landon had played against a few times in the AHL, Ferraro said Landon was impressed by Schultz's skill. I didn't see anything wrong with doing so.
I think hes much better than alot of the color guys in the nhl today. I find all of the guys on CBC these days to be unbearable. On a side note the guys WHL stats always amaze me 108 goals 84 assits 192 points in just 72 games! WHAT!!! thats better than crosby!!!
I feel like someone who scored over 400 goals and had 900 points is allowed to be a little "arrogant" in his analysis. Problem is his analysis isnt arrogant, it's just brutally honest.
Much better than Glenn Healy but I wouldn't say I like Ferraro.
Your right Healy sucks.. It wasn't like he had a great playing career, so there is no way he has the right to tell Ovechkin or Kovalchuk how they should be scoring goals. In fact CBC's whole panel sucks horribly. None of them had good playing careers (Healy, Weeks, Stock lol) Stock can't even put a sentence together without twitching his eyes or studedering/screwing up.... The most offensive thing I heard these guys say was that the Colorado Avs were basically an AHL team (night they got pounded by Oilers) then centered out some of the players names and mocked them by saying they shouldn't be in the NHL etc.. That is so rude its disgusting. These guys families watch especially the Canadian guys which make it on HNIC..... PJ is so lucky he's not pumping gas for a living, it could've easily gone the other way for him. He needs to count his blessings, not how many guys the avs have who he thinks should be in the AHL.
In general these guys shouldn't be insulting the players, especially the guys who had poor to mediocre playing careers.
Can't think of a colour guy I would rather listen to. Also enjoy it whenever TSN has him on the panel (which I don't think they do much anymore, if at all.)
Speaking of the PJ Stock hate, was there ever a thread discussing his popped suit jacket collar? I'm not the guy to care about fashion, but that was just terrible. There really isn't anyone on CBC that I want to listen to, which is saying something because they have 3 different panels with 22 guys each.
Sorry Joey, gotta disagree. Ferraro and McGuire are two of the absolute best in the game. I know they rub some people the wrong way (some would insert a pause here for McGuire), but their hockey knowledge is far above just about every other color commentators. They are the only ones I consistently learn something from.
There's something funny about a poster making an honest, brutal assessment of someone because he dares to make honest, brutal assessments of others. Furthermore, if Ferraro is "arrogant" for speaking his mind like that, doesn't that make the OP arrogant, as well? He makes a point of the fact that Ferraro hasn't played in a decade, but when's the last time that the OP laced them up in an NHL game or been on live TV analyzing a game? It's just so bizarrely hypocritical. It would pay to consider "am I doing the very thing that I'm criticizing?" before posting.
Maybe he comes off as prickly or arrogant to some, because he states things very matter of factly. Trouble is, he knows a **** load more about hockey than most other analysts and he's often correct. So if that makes him arrogant then I guess he is.
He's great at his job imho. Warts and all. I like when a guy isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. When he's right all the time, it's even better. That's probably why some people don't like him. He's likely hurt some fanboy feelings along the way.
He's ridiculously knowledgeable about hockey whichever way you choose to slice it. I like the way he breaks down replays; the overheads in particular. Always knowledgeable and worth paying attention to.
Not sure where the OP gets this notion that all he does is talk smack on players. He talks plenty about all the good things they do. Maybe it's just Ray's personality that accentuates the negative things that come out of his mouth. Idk...the guy's the best in the business for me.

Pretty much echoes my views as well. I think he's one of the best.
The type of colour commentators I don't like are the guys who simply state the obvious or echo platitudes and the other type I detest are the type who try to be controversial for the sake of being controversial. I don't always agree with Ferraro but he calls it how he sees it.
